a stuter at low speeds

Featured Replies

hi guys i have just bought a vrs a few days ago and i dont no if i have a problem or not i was hoping you could help

when i drive the car on motorways and such she goes like hell pulls fantasticly but when i am pull out of junctions or pulling a way from lights etc. i get a sudden pause or stuter from her

before the vrs i had the std octavia 2.0 ambient and when i took it for a service i got it back with a bad stuter which turned out to be a cracked ht lead which paused it everytime i tried to accelarate it felt like it was in 5th gear

now the prob with vrs is no were near that bad but does feel very similar if i am driving through a school zone and only doing 20mph it does feel a little more stutery not flat like what i would assume turbo lag to feel like (first car with a turbo) but a little jumpy and i am starting to worry

i have been looking at the papers and in the last few months it has had new temp sensor new lamda senser and new air pipes so i dont no if the person that owned it from me had been trying to solve the problem to or just coincidence

paul

I would scan it for fault codes and clear any that show up. If the previous owner has replaced all those bits they might not have cleared any fault codes afterwards and it won't run right until those codes have been cleared. If it shows up a fault code for an unrelated part then you can start looking at that. If it is the coil packs then there is a recall on at the moment so you should be able to take the car to a Skoda dealership and if they are the original coil packs they will replace them F.O.C.

Also do you have any idea if its remapped or not? Some remaps cause hesitation so it would help to know if its a standard car or not. Also your insurance would need to know.

I don't think it has had a remap it has no paper work for one anyway. I will check for fault codes tonight when I get in

Thanks

Paul

Have something very similar.... heres whats done so far... When cold seems worse as the car goes all lumpy... when warm get very much the same as vipers symptoms

Plugs changed

Breather hoses?

any ideas what breather hoses to look at???  and where they are??

You have a "y" shaped one comin off of the cambox at the top of the engine that normally holes at the y join itself - my one had a 5p coin sized hole there, there is also a "s" shaped one that goes from the crankcase vent valve t piece and the inlet manifold. That is under the inlet manifold - need to move the plastic cover with all the holes in and the metal plate by the dipstick for better access to that one.

Hope it helps

Thanks kentphil1, will check these out.

hi guys thanks for the info pluged in my diagnostic this morning and no fault codes stored will check air hose it did come with papers to say a air hose had been replaced in january but i wonder if there only replaced one.

itt is worse first thing on the morning but when the engine warms up it seem to die right down but still noticable mainly at slow speeds

Viper, seems like exactly same symptoms as myself, going to check hoses over next few days myself when get a few spare mins... please feedback if you find anything on yours.

Like chicken_eyebrow says I would do a throttle body clean.

hoses checked today..... all ok.... stuck now, have to go into dealers me thinks for them to look

i wouldn't bother mate, they won't have a clue either if there are no codes

try other options

Long shot here, but try cleaning the air temperature sensor by the throttle body in isopropyl alcohol, also check the integrity of the coil wiring looms and connectors. What did you gap the plugs at?.

Got myself a new gasket for the throttle body today but it does not say which way round it goes one side is flat the otherside has a strange texture to it or does it not matter

P.s eezeeweb I hope you get your sorted matey ATB paul

If your still in Cardiff don't bother, it means the dreaded White Dove ......... You'd be better off dumping the car in the Taff, there's more chance of it being fixed in there than in WD

Gimme a shout and I can hook it up to VCDS and see if we can get any sense out of it

Viper - glad you got your sorted...

Dave, not used white dove....used griffin mill once with a renault... the octy will not be going there either... lol last dealer I used was in newport, they were ok... WOuld be good if you could take a peek, am in pontypridd but can always come down to cardiff...

Dave, thanks for having a peek at my car earlier tonight, good to meet you also....  hopefully will be able to find out if that fluctuation is the cause of me issues.....

Hopefully !!

I crashed out last night, so didn't get round to emailing you.

I'm in all night tonight so I'll sort it later
