Rear wheel bearing - DIY replacement. Instructions? difficulty?

Featured Replies

Anyone care to post some instructions for replacing a rear wheel bearing on a 58 plate Octavia estate, please? Am I right in thinking its not a press fitting?

Thanks

Ant

No they bolt on.

Just need to remove caliper and disc then unbolt. But need a big bar to tighten as the bolt goes up to 180nm plus 180 degrees.

Ah ok. Well I've got a 3ft torque wrench and a 3ft breaker bar so that shouldn't be a problem.

Is it tightened with the wheel on the ground to stop it turning?

Is it a hex nut? Or a spline?

There seems to be some variety of parts - I've just looked at the images on eurocarparts and they have three different sets of bolts depending which one I pick. Heres the photos:

Anyone know which I need? It's a 58 plate 1.9 TDi Octavia Estate.

The top one looks like the right one to me.

OE number should be 1T0 598 611 - the SKF ref is VKBA 3644.

HTH :)
