Skoda Octavia MkI lock, wing mirror and window issues. Help sought.

Featured Replies

Good Morning,

First of all I apologise if this is posted in the wrong area, I'm new to the forum and looking for some assistance.

I bought a Skoda Octavia GLXI on an S plate about 2 weeks ago. Seems like a solid runner but there a few niggling issues I have found with it.

I don't know if the car has remote central locking but the key I have for it doesn't have central locking button just a small torch on it so I have to unlock it with the doors which does control the central locking. The thing is the drivers door lock doesn't seem to work? I put the key in and it does turn left and right but nothing happens. It feels like there is nothing behind it if that makes sense? I have to open it with the passenger door or the boot.

The drivers window will not work. When I press the electric window button and I listen carefully I can here a slight clicking noise as if there is power to it but it goes nowhere. The other windows work from the drivers door panel and on their own buttons.

The electric wing mirrors don't work at all.

The little red security lights don't flash on the doors.

When I press the central locking button on the drivers door panel all doors lock except the passenger door which locks and then pops back up again??

Can anyone suggest and fixes for these things please? The most important thing to me is getting the window working again as I have to swipe into the car park at work and obviously this causes me issues!

Thanks in advance.

Have a search on here for water ingress into the drivers door. Some of the issues you list are very common to either some broken wires in the loom where it passes into the drivers door, or corroded pins on the connector block for electric window motor in the drivers door. Not so sure on the drivers look not working....

The steps below should point you in the right direction (written from memory)

You will need to remove the drivers door panel:

- torx screws around the edge

- tweeter

- screw behind internal door release handle

- remove 3 large screens on the internal door handle (have a search on here, you will need to remove other bits, there are photos)

- remove cable to door puddle light thing

- lift panel up (it clips in along the window opening)

- detach cable from internal door handle

- remove panel and start investigations.

The issue with opening the door via the lock sounds like one of the arms that connects the lock barrel to the lock mechanism has come detached. You'll have to get the door card off to see what's really up.

Sounds almost like certain bits on the door have been replaced such as the window regulator and door lock, but not connected up to where they should be.

Thanks for your replies. I stripped the door down last night to have a better look. When I tried the drivers window with the it stripped down I can here a click coming from the big black box which the wiring loom goes into but the window doesn't move so i'm guessing there is power there? None of the cabling appears damaged. There is no noise when trying the wing mirrors. Do you think the black box needs replacing?

I didn't have a torx long enough to unscrew the lock. I will try again at weekend when I get one.

Thanks

Well I'm please to announce I finally have everything working! The door lock paddle had snapped so I got another door lock from the scrap yard and swapped the paddles over and it now works a treat. Was a right pain in the backside trying to get the spring to sit correctly in the barrel but it's working so happy with that. Also whilst I was at the scrap yard I got my hands on another wiring loom, replaced that yesterday and I now have a working drivers door window! On examining the old loom 2 wires had snapped where it passes through the door to the pillar. When I lock the drivers door the security light flashes too now. Only thing that doesn't still work is the wing mirrors but I can live with that. So happy I persisted with sorting this out! Happy days.
