Seat Lumbar support winder doing nothing.

Featured Replies

Ok, I've had my Octy 2 months now, and the lumbar support winder on the driver's seat wasnt working when I bought it. I really want to figure out why it wont. I think the winder came off on a previous owner and they glued it back on. But as the winder seems work like a screw (had a look on the passenger side) since they winder is glued in place it cant adjust! any body know if I just remove the glue will it work, or is there a guide for taking the whole thing apart to figure out where the actual problem is?

Thanks guys, from both me and my spine ;-)

The can break and I think there it's a guide on here somewhere about replacement of them.

The cable has probably broken at the other end (in the back of the seat). It is like a brake cable on a bike with a metal nub on the end and this snaps off. I did a thread on a home made repair a while back - see here.

Thanks guys. I dont think the cable has snapped, as when i tried to take the winder knob off, the entire winder mechanism comes out, but the cable stops it being completely removed. I'll have a better look at it now though, with your guide trundlenut

Ok, i did some investigating, and found my problem. the cable had popped its litle round nipple at the seat end. so,

I took the full unit out of the Passenger seat to fix my seat. I have photos too, so im going to put together a how to guide, with pictures.. I'll get it up on a new thread shortly :-)

So the end of the cable had broken then? The cable sheath would stop you pulling the mechanism out.

Correct Trundelnut, the fraying of the cable end had enough friction in the sheath to make it feel like it was still connected.

heres the thread i did when i replaced it with the kit from the passenger seat, temporary until i can source a new cable, then refix the passenger side.

Handy, I didn't think about taking any pictures unfortunately.

I don't think the cable is available on it's own, you end up having to buy the winder, cable and the plastic mechanism in the back of the seat for some silly price. I just bought a brake cable from Halfords, filed down the nub on the end to fit the slot and fixed to the broken cable with a couple of duplex clips and adjusted the end of the cable to the correct length to match the original cable.
