Squealing rear brakes

Featured Replies

I have an 05 Octy vRS it has done only 160miles but when I reverse I get an awful squeeling noise from the rear brakes, I am assuming this is them sticking, will this ease off after a few more miles of should I get the dealer to look at it?

There's quite a few threads floating around on this subject. General consensus as far as I can tell is that most VAG cars do it (my boss has an A4 which does it and a co-worker has a Leon Cupra R that does it).

There is apparantly some trick you can do with weights on the calipers or something but do a search and I'm sure you'll find a bit more.

Oh BTW, my 05 Octy does it too, done about 1500 miles in it though :)

My Vrs has done about 1100 and they still really squeel loudly when I reverse. The mrs keeps complaining that it makes people look and is embarrasing.

I got back home this morning at about 6am and tried to brake carefully so I didn't wake people up, but just managed to produce an even longer louder squeel than usual. So I assume its normal.

The last thing the dealer said to me when I drove off was "the brakes will squeel for a bit, because they're new" so I supose they are use to people asking about that.
