Hi as I said ive just bought a 2008 Octavia Vrs Tdi and noticed a few issues, 1) I have been driving it with no lights on the dash I pumped up the tyres and an amber warning light came on, before I pumped it up the 4 tyres were 26,27,29 and 30 psi I pumped them up to 31 any ideas ? also it seems very noisy driving it I had a similar issue with my old Escort and it was a wheel bearing worn but the Escort was much noisier, are Vrs's normally noisy or should I get it checked ? I thank you in advance for the assistance.

Hi and welcome to Briskoda, does the car have a button on the centre console below the climate controls which looks like a tyre with an exclamation in it? If so you have the tyre pressure monitor. When you alter the tyre pressure you have to reset the monitor so the car knows the new rolling radius of the tyres and can monitor correctly. If you changed the pressures and didn't reset it then the monitor would have picked that up and threw up the warning light. It seems to be the case with all Octavias that there is quite a bit of road noise that comes up into the passenger compartment. Mine is like it too and you soon get used to it, or go mad in the process!!

Hope you enjoy your car.

Ian

welcome.

do a search on "sawtoothing". its a common problem on this platform where rear wheels go out of alignment over time, leading to uneven tyre wear which manifests as a rumble. cure: 4 wheel alignment and replace the rear tyres if they are worn unevenly.

Hi welcome to Briskoda!

The vRS has a tyre pressure monitoring system. If you alter the pressures the system should be reset / recalibrated so that it correctly registers the new pressures. There should be a button in front of the gear lever with a picture of a tyre with an exclamation mark in it. You should check in the manual but I think you press and hold this button to reset the system.

Some vRS's suffer with geometry problems on the rear suspension which causes the rear tyres to wear unevenly (do a forum search for "saw toothing" for lots of reading). One the rear tyres become worn they resonate through the cabin which some members have accustomed to a noise similar to that of a worn wheel bearing. It could of course be a duff wheel bearing though! Get on your hands and knees and check the inner edge of the tyre for uneven wear.

Hi thanks for the advice I went into the local Skoda Garage and they said that the wheel alignment is to blame for the noise problem got the alignment checked at the car garage SMC Exeter use (Pro tyre on Marsh barton) and it was well off, this made it loads quieter and am getting new tyres for the rear this weekend hopefully it will stop it !!! . the warning light was because as a new owner I pressed buttons, I kept my finger on the reset button till it beeped and its gone out and stayed off loving my new car best ive driven recomend to all.

Iv the same noise in the rear and it's my tires but there is actually lots of tread left on them do I might put them on the front to flatten the edges :)

Welcome fellow Devonian, I used to live in Exeter myself until about 5 years ago, over in Exwick near the Thatched House pub!

Was it the white diesel VRS you bought?

So Protyre on Marsh Barton do the full four wheel alignment then do they, thats handy to know :-)
