Weight of a 1.9 Tdi engine?

Featured Replies

Does anyone know (rather than guess) how heavy the 1.9 Tdi engine in the VRS is?

Thanks,

Richard

Bare block & head (nothing removed) without gearbox & turbo? - I would reckon 90kg minimum. I have move a long block around a workshop on the ground, kind of "walking" it on the corners of the sump / dragging it. A complete head is "heavy" but liftable. I have lifted a bottom end still with sump/crank & pistons. That was tough! :D Sent a bottom end to USA on a pallet, and that was a 70kg pallet from memory.

I just realise the above was a bit "guessy" but I have some experience of lugging them around / shipping them. :D

Ah - just found this on TDIclub - someone weighed a complete PD engine with turbo.

"350 for the PD" - That's in lbs, so that suggests 160kg, then factor in say 10kg for the turbo. Damn, I didn't realise it would 150kg :D

So THAT'S why it understeers...

LOL.

Couldn't seem to find anything.

I looked up the kerb weights and the 1.4 Mpi is about 145kg lighter... so 150kg/160kg for a complete engine (no gearbox) seems quite good for a big lump of old iron. I was expecting somewhere around 200-220kg.

And looking at the 130bhp Tdi compared to the 100bhp Tdi there is a noticable difference too of around 60kg or so. ???
