Featured Replies

 anyone come across this P1296 octy vrs. started off with engine managment light coming on,had it checked out and the diagnostics said it was a cooling system fault(check fluid levels, sensors etc, etc)had the fault cleared via the handset, stopped off for about 3miles and then the light came back on,put the handset back on This time the code is P1296 the diagnostics handset (Krypton) is saying that it is a unknown error? the thing is the car seems to be driving ok (octavia vrs 2001 no mods) anyone any ideas

thanks

P1296 - Cooling System malfunction

If the levels are all good then it's likely to be a sensor/wiring fault. If you're in warranty I'd take it into the dealers. There's obviously a problem there if the fault code keeps coming back!

morning everyone, right i know it is 7 months down the line ,but just an update on this post , i never got to the bottom of this problem ,i keep driving with the em light on (does not seem to efffect anything ) anyway i think i have sussed out the general area /cause of it , i had the diagnostics on again comes up with unknown and the origanal p code ,then reset and clear all errors light goes out ,light then stopped off for about a week ,and came back on when i turned my heater and aircon on  , so i am assuming that the problem is related to this part of the cooling system ,anyone else had this problem ?

Did you take it to the dealer?

Has it had the coolant temp sensor updated to a four pin green?

thanks for reply, no not been to dealer and i will check the sensor

Autodata CD2 gives the following:

P1269 (VAG 5-digit code 17677)

Fault location - Injector 4 - implausible signal.

Probable cause - no control.

P1296 (VAG 5-digit code 17704)

Fault location - Engine cooling system - malfunction

Probable cause - ECT sensor, coolant thermostat
