Radio quad lock SAFE pin purpose

Featured Replies

Here (http://octavia-vrs.com/cms/images/mfd2/stream_mp3_pinouts.jpg) you can see pinout of Stream MP3 radio. For what purpose is the SAFE pin?

Background is this, and it might or might not be relevant:

I'm having some issues with poor radio quality (hiss, cracking, etc.) when trying to swap Stream MP3 to Pioneer AVIC-F30BT, and noticed that the adapter I have doesn't have anything in the SAFE pin, but it does have a wire connected to pin left of CAN/H, and that is leading to some radio antenna adapter.

Thinking aloud: Can that possibly be the power pin I should be providing to the antenna to fix the radio reception?

Anyone?

The safe pin in the anti-theft coding control signal and should be connected to positive. It has no effect on radio reception.

To fix the radio reception you need to put in an inline aerial booster, and connect it to a switched 12V supply. Most headunits have a suitable output, the best one to target would be the amp remote connection on the pioneer.

Dont worry about the safe pin, its not in the adapter because its not needed and is only required by the original headunit as part of its anti-theft system.

Thanks for your replies! I'll update the post after I find the suitable wire :)
