Gearbox trouble

Featured Replies

Had myoccy for 3 1/2 years now nothing has gone wrong in that time (except where i broke it)

this week 2 problems, the first (brake light switch) i have fixed.

the second is when stationary putting car int 1st 2nd or reverse is really hard it sort of double clunks. if moving even rolling at snails pace it is a lot easier, 3rd and 4th when stationary are also harder but no where near as bad

I have read all the forums and seem to have come to the conclusion that i need a gearbox oil change at least.

question is can i do this myself? where are the filler/emptyier plug's what is the best oil to use. i am fairly mechanically minded are there any gotchas i should watch for? also anyone have to hand the quantiy of oil i should put in  ?

I know it could be the gearbox gone or the clutch playing silly Bug****s but it cant hurt to try the oil first.

Car is a 2001 occy TDi 110BHP with 98,000Miles :(

sounds like the clutch might be on the way out :( not bad for age and milage though

mine went at about this age but a bearing went in the gearbox soon after too, don't think the clutch helped this problem

Autodata CD-2 lists the gearbox oil as being 75W/90 synthetic - 2 litres.

got it booked in to my local "back street garage" reason i chose them is i trust them good job fair price they quoted the same as a very well known clutch/gearbox only firm, who in reality as they "specialize" should be cheapest.

differance being they know what they are doing and look after my car while they have it. also getting gearbox oil changed while they are working on it seems a good idea considering the milage and after reading the failures at about 100K thought it would be a good idea.

cheers fro everyone's advice
