MK1 Fabia MPI 1.4 8V few minor issues... Help please?

Featured Replies

Hi all been a while since i posted on here due to various car changes lol, My mum still has her fabia mpi though which now has one or two problems.....

1) a lambda sensor issue were led to believe when we got the car it needed the precat sensor which i changed only now for the post cat sensor to play up (is this usual?)

2) Timing chain kit was fitted when we got the car @ 106k its now on 112k and the chain rattles slightly on idle? Now i changed the oil last week with a 5w30 grade oil (recommended by local motor factor) and i have read that it could be due to oil?

3) Also since changing the oil it has a small drip leak from the sump plug now? are these like most cars? copper washer that fails?

4) other things are owt and nowt really, needs drivers door lock pin, and aerial amplifier for new head unit,

Any advice on where to get the best price lambda sensor from and whether it is common for these issues, and maybe a different grade of oil?

thanks

Dan

When you change the front sensor this will show the ECU what's actually happening with the exhaust gas, so its likely that the rear sensor was duff all along too and now the ECU knows it from the valid pre-cat readings.

All the MPi's chains rattle, its because they have no tensioner unfortunately. I changed one on the GF's last car and it was silent for about 2 weeks before it sounded like it was trying to escape again. The oil grade does help, although its never been enough of an issue for me to bother changing it.

The drip from the sump-plug is sort-of normal, the copper washer should be renewed to solve this, either that or a smear of non-setting sealant such as hylomar blue on the threads but don't overtighten it as they can strip remarkably easily.

As for the Aerial amp, it doesn't need a new amp, just an 'active ISO adapter' that sends 12v down the antenna wire to run the amp. I lucked out and found one at a car boot sale for £1, you can get one here... http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/con-ct27aa05-ct27aa05-aerialantenna-vag-active-iso-adaptor.html

Hope this helps, its all advice gleaned from keeping her 148,000 mile MPi going. Before I gave up and told her to get a newer one

Dave.
