laptop keyboard issues.

Featured Replies

help! Ive switched my laptop on today to find my backspace, space, enter and arrow keys have all stopped working. They were fine yesterday.

Ive googled and it seems to suggest taking laptop apart. Surely it wouldnt just go? Ive plugged in a wireless keyboard and it works fine.

Anything else I should look at before attempting to take it all apart? Its a compaq Presario CQ61.

Turn off, take the battery out, hold power button for 30s then replace battery and turn on. Try that :)

Nope...seems dead!!

It will be either a faulty keyboard or a loose connection where it attaches to the motherboard. It's usually pretty straightforward to disconnect and reattach the keyboard and nothing to be scared of.

I have attempted to take the laptop apart but gave up. I couldnt free the keyboard..was probably missing a screw somewhere. So much hassle! Why now!!??

Thank you. Exactly what I needed. However, it has confirmed that the keyboard is broken. I have reseated the connection and have the same problem. doh!!

If you have got it apart enough to check the connections, it is no problem to order a new keyboard and fit it. And while waiting for it to be delivered, why not look at one of the mod sites and fit a backlighting system so you can type in the dark!!

What laptop is it ??

I have a pile of spare parts for numerous laptops

I would have a look on ebay, I got a new keyboard for a toshiba laptop for about £9 delivered recently. The old keyboard should have a part number on the back somewhere and just bung that into the search on ebay.

And in the meantime, get a cheap keyboard ( either USB or PS2) .
