Is green an unlucky colour for a car?

Featured Replies

Turns out I haven't had much luck with my rallye green vRS ... so I'm beginning to believe the superstition!

I've never had so much bad luck with any of my other cars, but in nearly 6 years of motoring, it seems as though all of my bad luck has come at once. To summarise:

  • Had the misfire/EPC light problem, thrown the car into limp-mode a couple of times. Dealer don't seem to know what's up with it - they forwarded all the data to Skoda head office and apparently had a reply of "We don't know"... Mechanic replaced spark plugs though after noticing they were heavily sooted up. Only had mild misfires since...
  • Noticed around Christmas time that some little disrespectful ass hole has put a massive 'S' shaped key scratch on my bonnet. Right down to the metal...
  • About 6 weeks ago, some idiot in a rusty little 106 at night managed to clip the side of me and broke my drivers side wing mirror. I stopped in the road (naturally) but the arsehole drove off...
  • The very next day, I managed to reverse into one of those little metal bollards in a car park like a wally. Completely trashed my rear bumper.
  • For the mirror and bumper, the repair (and £8.00 a day insurance charge for 8 days for Skoda to diagnose and replace the spark plugs) cost me the best part of £500. Ouch...
  • Just over a week after getting the car back, driving from Cardiff to Shrewsbury to the hospital, some bloke in a van crashes into the back of me at about 15-20mph. Nobody was hurt, which is the main thing, but again the back bumper is trashed, along with the bootlid and near side tail light... going through the insurance now, hopefully all will go swimmingly. Fingers crossed!
  • I've discovered a load of interior rattles. I have to listen to music to mask them, but now even when I get a remotely bassy bit of a song, loads of trim rattles... very annoying indeed and not acceptable for this car.
  • In the recent heatwave, I have also just noticed my air con does not work?!

So, all in all, it seems as though my particularly Furby was nailed together at about 4:55pm on a Friday and all the factory dudes wanted to do was get down the pub...

Sucks to be me, hey :p

i too have interior rattles. car seemed to get one within minutes of picking the thing up from the garage. not to bad, but sometimes its there constantly and just makes the car sound tacky and poorly built. although i do personally think that the interior of our furby's is one of its weak points. fairly cheap plastics it seems like! hope you don't have any further problems mate!

you're right, some bad luck there....

mine is rally green, and has not been bad ;) no issues except for delaminating wheels, and a slight glove box squeek (mine doesn't use oil or misfire) 26,000 miles. :)

I have a scratch on the bottom of my front spliiter due to a small rock when an ass in a landrover (why do landrovers think they cant drive off road, and expect you to in your hot hatch?!) ran me off the road on wryno's pass... (creeping past each other, me off the road, him just sat there refusing to move :( )

otherwise all good!

*fingers crossed!

oh, and I would suggest you run your aircon all the time, best way to keep it working perfectly, I always have done this on all my cars, and never had an aircon problem.

The unlucky are nothing more than a frame of reference for the lucky

You've had some serious bad luck. :@

Seems you've dealt with it well though and you've kept on motoring. The fact it's green should make it one of the most visible cars on the road....Maybe the drivers were blinded by it's beauty and crashed into you.

I always have done dude, as I noticed the windscreen starts to mist up if I don't. But then lately it seems as though it's stopped working as soon as the hot weather starts. :(

Sorry to hear that you haven't had much luck. As for the scrote in the Pug 106, surely you could have turned the car round and used all 180 horses to chase the b'stard down. Maybe the sight of you homing into view in his rear view mirror would have scared the **** out of him and caused him to wrap his shed round a tree. Shame if it had.

Haha in an ideal world, that would be a great outcome - however you can never be so sure really can you... like I say, I stopped, the road is a bendy one and a bit narrow, so would have been a pain and even more dangerous to whip the car round. Sadly, the fact he wasn't willing to stop says it all - probably scum. I obviously have no authority to make him stop, or he could have been an ass if he did stop. You just never know he could have been the type to pull out a knife or something dodgy...

Yea then cut you a slice of hash brownie.......

damn you really are having bad luck! buy a lottery ticket ;)

One extra on my Rallye Green vRS would have helped George512.

Reversing sensors. They're great.

Haha yep, would have been great - I had them one my old A3 and they were invaluable. Unfortunately the vRS is an ex-demo so I didn't get to choose the options - instead it came with the most common option choices.

i have mixed feelings, not a scratch or chip for 7 months, and then this happens.

hopefuly will get the car back before the end of the week :)

I agree, i have had what i would class as serious issues with car in the 6 months iv had it, and to add to my bad luck theyve gave me a 1.2tdi greenline estate FML :( ha
