first drive of 1.2 htp...a bit lumpy at idle?

Featured Replies

i'm about tp purchase a near new 11k mile 2011 1.2 70hp fabia and on the test drive found it to be a very nippy car, and coming from a mini, very comfy(i blame the run flats), but on pulling out of the dealers and sometimes at idle in traffic i noticed a little engine vibration, like a rough idle.

The dealer says it's a 3 pot trait, i searched the forum and found some people had experienced the same, but is it a great problem, should i walk on to the next one that comes up .It's still under warranty of course.

Not a real bad judder, just a vibration.

Any advice for a newbie? thanks

I think due to new low emissions regs it has to have a low, hence rough idle. No problems and like you say its under warranty.

I had a fabia from new. Had the car 2 years 19000 miles with this engine. Had only one fault which was the (temp sensor). Was lumpy at idle and when you put your foot down. I found it nippy but lost power up hill all in all a good engine

I had the polo with the 58hp engine and it was exactly the same

Yep, the 3cyl engine is like that, no need to worry.

I think it depends on what you are comparing it to. The 3 pot has it's own traits and characteristics and will feel lumpy at times when compared to 4 or 6 cyl cars. I came from a 6 cyl car to this and it's never been a problem for me. Look at what it costs and recognise it for what it is, a 1.2 3 cyl 70 hp..It won't be the smoothest or most powerful car you've driven but it's lots of fun and is unlikely to let you down.
