Cars.... what should I do?

Featured Replies

A sorry tale ensues....

Basically, I bought a Octavia vRS off here about 6 weeks or so ago. Got a cracking deal as the seller seemed pretty desperate to sell (and no I didn't try to knock him down further). Car is completely faultless and I enjoy it immensely.

To be honest, I wasn't really looking for an Octy as we had more or less decided on a Fabia vRS.

Have had an architect round today who basically tells us that we can't convert our loft. So I now have about 20k in readies that was earmarked for the loft, sat doing nothing (if SWMBO knew what I was contemplating she would wring my neck!)

So, my tentative plan is to swap the Octy for a Fabia vRS (gives me an economical car to use for long distances when I need to do them) and then buy something like an Audi S4 Bi-turbo Avant.

While the Octy (and Fabia, for that matter) are fast, I want something absolutely devastatingly quick. But also something that looks fairly normal and SWMBO will be able to drive with ease on the days I need to take the Furby.

Has anyone been there/done that/got the T shirt?

Am I out of my mind?

Anyone seriously interested in swapping their Furby vRS (must be silver) for my Octy vRS (Silver) with a cash adjustment either way (maybe we just use Glasses Guide trade values)

All comments welcome.

Cheers

I have recently been in a similar quandry. However, although the heart tells me to go out and buy something mental the head tells me that throwing money at a depreciating asset like a car isn't the most sensible thing to do. I compromised and invested the majority but spend a little on a daft toy that I can tinker with. Tough decision though....

If vrs Barry reads this hopefully he'll give some tips, as he runs an RS4 Audi.

I should have said that I'm not proposing the whole 20k on another car, probably only half. Which I think is a nice compromise. :D

10k would get you a half decent s4 but expect to pay a lot more for an rs4

on the trader rs4's are starting at 24k, where as s4's are starting at 9k, i would buy the S4 then put the rs4 turbo's on it :D

I think 10k would get me into a late 1999 S4. RS4 is way out of reach!

I'd budget

Mitsi EVO VI for

rover 75 1.8t? :P

Oh God no, not a Saab. When I was going through my mad phase I wanted to chop the Octy in and get a cheaper diesel estate - Octy TDi / Peugeot 406 or similar which would be the everyday hack about. An EVO of some description, possibly a Scooby would have been the car for 'best'. A few slaps around the face from SWMBO put a halt to those thoughts though.

However, I'm going to look at an EVO VIII 260 tomorrow morning

Ummmm well not alot to report really :o First I had to dismantle half my dashboard to get my HU out (ask Kenny). Then I put my new number plates on and whilst I was at it I decided to de-badge the car. Then I fixed the dodgy rear washer and after that I went and got a haircut and then it was a bit too late - sorry :o

I will go and have a look though :D
