Introduction and Tyre Problem

Featured Replies

Hello nice people of Briskodaville,

I bought an Octavia Vrs 2.0T last June, and it is one of the best cars I've had or driven. The handling around the country lanes is breath taking!! However, I don't think sloshing one's brain side to side is doing me any good, because the toothy grin is starting to become permanent.

Performance is quite incredible, and even the wife gets a bit carried away sometimes, particularly when white van man fancies his chances.

But, I'm having the tyre wearing blues again. I've read the forums regarding this and it seems quite widespread. I had a 2009 Octavia 2.0T diesel estate and it did exactly the same thing. The first thing I did with the Vrs was get a full 4 wheel geometry check within the first 50 miles. And yes they were out of line and they were put back where they should be. But after 8000 miles that ominous rumbling started again, and the inner tread of both rear tyres is slowly being shredded off. I mentioned it to the dealer and they said it was the multi link suspension causing it, and shrugged their shoulders.

After reading through nearly 2 years of forum related comments on the subject, there doesn't appear to be a satisfactory solution to the problem. Does anybody know if Skoda are actually acknowledging that there's a problem, or do I have to either put up with the incessant rumbling for 10k miles before the tyres wear out completely.

Any links or information would be greatly received.

Many thanks.

Welcome aboard Derek.

Your question will get better exposure in the Octavia section of the forum.

Thanks, I'll post it there.

Could you say what tyres are fitted and what pressures you run them at please?

Hi George,

Thanks for your response.

The tyres came new with the car and they're Dunlop Sport Maxx GT. The tyre pressures are what they should be and they haven't changed since I've had the car, as the TPM hasn't registered any change in pressure.

I'm not looking to knock Skoda or anything, as it's a really great car, the best I've ever had, but if there's a way of getting rid of the horrible rumble, even if it means changing the tyres to another brand, I'd welcome people's recommendations.

Cheers.

Derek
