Replacing a VRS heated wing mirror glass?

Featured Replies

Hello,

Has anyone any idea how to change the wing mirror glass on a fabia VRS, I can't seem to manage to remove the old one let alone reattached the new one...The problems I am having are that I have a wire with a double end that seem to be stuck down and I am a bit nervous about ripping it off, also the old one has two metal clips and I am not overly sure how to remove and reattach to new glass...

Any help gratefully received as I am truely puzzled!

I'm sure I read a while back that Jason (devonutopia) was advising someone as he has done this at some point. I'm sure he'll be along soon enough to help out.

When i changed mine for Golf tinted ones i used 2 flat headed screwdrivers to lever the glass off, then pulled the two cables off the heating element connections, Lengthened the wiring loom and attached the new mirror glass.

Im sure Jason will provide a more detailed description lol

Set the mirror at its most inward setting. Then take hold of the lower outside edge and pull with good even pressure. It ll then unclip. The wires are held on by spade connectors so just give them a good tug. I did use some wd40 on the spades though as they looked stuck on by they came easily.

Im pretty sure the correct procedure is to undo the 2 torx screws at the bottom of the wing mirror which will loosen the front of the frame and allow better access, the glass itself clips onto a center ball type thing all the way round. it can be difficult to remove properly without damaging any of the lugs on the back of the glass.

With the front frame bit loosend off i got some flat head screw drivers and pressed on the clips on the back of the glass and it came off like that, still took a little bit of force but... it was off with no damage and went back together fine :)

I was driving down the motorway the other day in the fast line with 2 cars in the other lanes when a huge bird ran out into the road, I braked hard and it flew up and hit my wing mirror.

The mirror flung in and hit my passenger window, smashing the mirror glass to peices aswel as scuffing my window.

How much are replacements for the VRS (SE) from Skoda? I need one in the next couple of days as my MOT is due.

Also the circular plastic piece holding the mirror in place seems to be snapped, can this be obtained from Skoda too?

I had to remove both of mine over the weekend and all you need to do is push the glass in one corner and pull out with the other and it's should just pop off.... It's a 2sec job and the new glass you just need to push it back on and it will pop into place

Hi all, been using the site for some time, many thanks to all who take the time to inform & create guides for the rest of us.

I've been replacing the whole door mirror unit on my Fabia (03, 1.2 Classic) & decided to expriment with the broken one. I tried pushing the top, bottom & even one corner all the way in then trying to pull the mirror glass off: eventually managed to break the glass without even removing it.

The quickest way without breaking anything I found is to undo te 2 torx crews on te underside of the mirror unit then pushing the top of the mirror in as far as it will go- this will expose the lugs holding glass bit to the swivel bit. Its then just a matter of using a screwdriver to prise off the bottom lugs you can see & the glass then lifts off upwards.

Whee are the torex on the underside. I've had my drivers side off today but didn't notice any that would be accessable without having the mirror off already.

I need to replace both sides of mine as well as the plastic dome which ataches the mirror to the motor on the drivers side.

just changed both mirrors on my fabia VRS, just tilt the glass, slide a smallish screwdriver down the inside edge and get your finger under the the outside and pull, pop out they come, the new ones had the bracket seperate to the glass so i fitted the bracket and then stuck the glass to that, all in all suprisingly easy

You sir are a star, any chance of a link to your thread?

Also, how much did they set you back?
