Fitting Vibe QB69's? Advice needed

Featured Replies

Hi,

I want to fit them in the parcel shelf of my Mk1 Octavia VRS. Has anyone on this forum done this install before? I don`t know whether to just cut holes big enough and fit them straight into the shelf or build up a piece of MDF under the parcel shelf for them to sit in. The shelf has already been modified by previous owner but has a pair of cheapo standard 6x9's in it!

Cheers,

Samuel

You need to build the shelf up.

Fibreglass could be used as an alternative to MDF. Liberally applied to the underside.

You'd end up with an overall stiffer shelf, which won't weight too much.

Would be sticky to make though ;)

The shelf has a steel sheet going across my 6x9s have been in for five years. Not saggy yet.

You really want to focus on the door speakers in the front, I wouldnt bother with 6 * 9s.

I would make one out of mdf, have a fixed piece behind the rear seats with the speakers in and a hinge after it enabling it to open without being too heavy for the struts. Cover it with speaker cloth including the speakers and it doesn't look like a chav butchered it lol

They weigh a tone! Mine have been pulling down my shelf and surrounding plastic for a fair while now. Need to reinforce like a boss otherwise you get low down squeaks

Totally agree with Liverpool-lad when I purchased my Octy it had 6x9's on the rear shelf. Reminded me of my old mk3 escort days lol. You would be far better with your money spent on some components up front. The sound stage is far better and leaves nothing on show.
