My battery light started flashing, and there's a whining noise which seems to b coming from the alternator, it's an 05 vrs fabia, any advise wud b brilliant

The belt either needs adjustment or replacement. If not, the alternator bearing may be worn.

Thanks jonny, my brother said he had an astra a few years back and the alternator pulley went causing it to hit the cam belt, wrecked, do u think this cud happen 2 me if I started the car again, thanks jonny, puttin my mind at rest, can't afford big repairs

I'm no mechanic. You should have this inspected by someone suitably qualified. Just speaking from experiences.

Hope you have it sorted, shouldn't cost too much.

05 is facelift mk1 should have square headlights as an easy way to tell

Is it a squealing noise? Or a whirring noise if it's whirring I'd say the altinators goosed. If its a squeezing noise try a little splash of coke on the belt when it's running as the belt is slipping and will need replacing but the coke will shut it up in the mean time

Should be ok to drive gently to garage... Not sure on these but alt belt not always same as cam belt. cam belt can **** your engine if it throws its toys out of the pram, Alt belt will just stop battery charging, result? Flat battery so car will eventually come to a halt as no charge will take place. Keep power drain to a minimum. Turn off aircon, etc. (Yes, that means turn off that row you call music)!
