Spare Wheel - Tyre Pressure

Featured Replies

My TPM System has been going off weekly for the last few weeks and whilst other tyres were dropping by 0.5lbs the near side ride was always 6-8lbs down so I gave it a good inspection and found a screw stuck in the tyre :(

Anyway point of post got the spare out, was surprised to see that the Octy has five bolts holding the wheel on, never seen more than four before on my previous cars. Fitted the spare and tested the pressure as it needed to be 34lbs for the rear and it was at 43.5lbs. I was very surprised to find it so high, I personally have never tested it and it hasn't been serviced yet so from factory? or dealers? and why so high a pressure?

Depending on the load in your car ...4 adults and luggage the rear tyre pressure could be anything up 43 psi and it is easier to let air out than put it in :)

And tyre pressures drop over time so if the spare isnt used for a while its best to over inflate it slightly.

The Fabia has five too...

Based on my observations 5 bolt wheels have been common on VAG cars since 1999/2000. Both my Mk1 Ocky and my wife's Mk 4 Golf have them.

The big Audis have had 5 bolt wheels since the dawn of time (well, 1980 or thereabouts). I was ratehr shocked to see that Citroen were selling saxos with THREE bolt wheels until recently.

My Audi A4 has 5 :D

Good point never thought of it like that as I didn't realise the pressure requirements went up that high.
