Ubuntu Linux & Android Apps

Featured Replies

I've got this urge to install Ubuntu onto a SSD for my desktop PC.

And then get a SDK and have a go at some Android Apps

Am I mental ?

Born to code in C

The Linux side of my final year project has been the best by far.

You aren't mental at all

I will be retiring at the end of the month so I will have plenty of time to play and fiddle.

Not ready for the cardigan & slippers just yet ! :whew:

You can use C for writing native code on Android but the language of choice for apps is generally Java. If you know your way around Eclipse, putting apps together using the SDK is a piece of cake. Plenty of tutorials on the web and the Android site itself is a good resource (http://developer.android.com/resources/tutorials/hello-world.html ) and I quite liked the Android for Dummies book.

Thanks for the tips and background reading Chris.

Will make a pleasant change from low level coding C for Arm.

Posted this from Firefox running on Ubuntu 11.x installed on my 128Gb SSD

It was so easy. Loads of free apps if you are a nerdy geek, or geeky nerd !

Good stuff!

Btw, real me use vi (or vim on Linux) for writing code, and if you're feeling extra geeky, you can integrate it into the command line using 'set -o vi' ;)

Ah command line, I remember that ! It's all graffical these days, you are spoilt !

I also remember submitting my program for over night batch run using punched cards, old skool or what ?

Just imagine having your own IBM mainframe to play with.

And direct hex keyboard entry of assembler, best done whilst sober.
