Engine cutting out whilst warming up

Featured Replies

Hi

I've posted previously about this and had a couple of replies which we've looked into but sadly the problem hasn't been resolved. The engine of my father's 03 Fabia 1.2 cuts out when the engine's not got up to running temperature but isn't cold. It did it again last night, 5 times within about 20 yards going down a steep hill - rather worrying as of course the steering and brakes are affected too! It starts up again without any problem and nothing is showing up on an engine management computer check! The car has done about 53,000 miles and is in good overall condition. Any clues?

Thanks :)

is it a 6v or 12v?

I've checked your other thread and seen replies about the timing chain, has it been replaced, checked or inspected at all?

has it been serviced on time with decent plugs and filters?

try giving the throttle valve a clean mate - made a world of difference on my 1.4mpi

no longer cuts out or judders roughly at traffic lights or when starting!!

^ this?

Loss of brakes sounds a bit scary.

How was the timing chain checked? Did they take the cam shaft inspection-timing locking covers off? With a little mirror you can tell whether the cams are in sync -good or slightly out -bad. Without this step happening it is simply guess work.

What did your garage or guy (or gal) think the problem was?

Loss of brakes sounds a bit scary.

The car will still brake just not as well since the servo vacume will not be working, should be fine to stop you though.

The steering will go heavy but again will still work.

Mt brother-in-law spoke to his mate - an AA recovery chap and he said "ignition coils" so we're trying this!
