Octavia 1.4 tsi engine noise

Featured Replies

Hi Folks,

Picked up an 09 Octavia 1.4 tsi (90kw) manual a couple of weeks ago ( after some clown hit my old 2.0 FSI and wrote it off ! )

Like the 1.4 but just started to hear some engine noise on idle that I'm sure was not there when I picked it up.

Doing a little internet research I see talk of possible issues with some engines. In particular the link below sounds like my 1.4 when idling ( bit like a diesel ):

Just wondered if any 1.4 tsi owners on the forum had had any issues or if this engine noise was common on this version of unit ?

Regards

Well my 2006 2.0 TFSI is going back to the dealers I bought it from with scored camshafts and that sort of rattle, im getting a full refund on the fact that it has a confirmed fault.

Is it sluggish to start the car?

I have found in my research that the cause of scoring (or wear) to the camshafts is down to not enough oil reaching them, which could be caused by all the bearings at the bottom of the engine (around the crankshaft) wearing so in turn not providing enough oil pressure to feed the top of the engine. All down to low oil(or wrong type of oil) or blocked pick up pipes.

The sluggish starting also suggests that there is excesive wear to the crankshaft.

Get it checked, be prepared to pay for 3 hours labour while a mechanic takes the rocker covers off to check the cam followers and camshafts. Or get shot of the car asap

I have the 1.8 Tsi...mine sounds the same, although with bonnet down I can`t hear a thing!

I think my 1.4 makes a similar sound, but I didn't have the bonnet open to heat it. Some times when I start it up after using it earlier on in the day the revs stay at 1200rpm (or there abouts) for about 30sec and it will sound a bit noisy and rough. It then settles to a normal idle and sound. I take it to be a warm up procedure or routine, similar to my old 1.4 twincharger Golf. Personally I am not worried about mine as normally it does not do that and from cold start up it just settles straight down to idle speed of about 900rpm.

Not sure if this helps or not but if you are concerned then get it looked at.
