Correct way to connect boost guage

Featured Replies

I was going to stick it to my fpr but i dont want a -20 reading or whatever it says when off boost

If i connect it after the intercooler close to the inlet manifold would this give a true reading and when off boost drop to 0??

Cheers

i think you'll get a minus reading when off boost no matter where you fit, have mine fitted to the fpr, as most people do as the pipe comes off the inlet manifold and makes popping a tee peace in easy :)

Yep minus reading is normal as the manifold is mostly in vacuum when off boost.

Ah well... Would it not give a more accurate reading?

i have never had no dramas with it connected to FPR, top of DV or manifold in the past. Tho Id say the FPR was the most accurate and the dv was the least... FPR was always was the place to do it on Audi sport forum, and ukmkivs.

my ODB bluetooth and "torque" app shows my boost reading to be the same as my gauge. im either lucky or the FPR is good enough.

Shrugs.. Its not going to to dangerously out, if at all on a vrs so i would not worry about it jase!

If you have negative values on your gauge then it is designed to show you boost and vacuum. On a car with no vac leaks you should see around -25 on idle and -30 on the overrun. So it is useful info to have displayed

There are gauges available with just boost if you want though

If you wanted a boost pressure reading as close as possible to what the ECU is actually "seeing" you'd need to fit a take-off to the boost pipework just after the intercooler, as the MAP sensor is on the top of it. Or use a digital boost gauge that taps into the wiring for the MAP sensor or uses the OBDII port. But as said, that doesn't give you a vacuum reading when the throttle is closed because there is only vacuum in the plenum at that point, not in the boost pipes.
