Aftermarket Suspension?

Featured Replies

Hi, last week i bought a 2006 Octavia vRS from a main dealer in Plymouth. Since then I noticed creaking from the front suspension when going over speed bumps! Today I took it to my local Skoda dealership and they had a look. They said I need new bushes, however, the shock absorbers are not standard fit, so they said they have no way of sourcing new bushes and i need to get them from elsewhere!!! As i did not own the car when this upgrade was done, is there any way of me finding out what bushes I need?!! Do they have part numbers on them or do the shock absorbers have any id on them? (sorry not mechanically minded!!!)

Also, do I have any comeback on the skoda dealership that sold me the car, as surely they should have picked this up on their "100 point check"!!

Did you not get a warranty from the dealer who sold it to you, they normally include one so take it back and let them sort it out

Yes got 3 month warranty but doesnt cover wear and tear items such as bushes! However i will call the dealership tomorrow to see if they can offer me something!

Whilst the suspension may have been changed, the bushes are 99% of the time exactly the same as OEM because they are never usually changed. The creaking is usually caused by the anti roll bar bushes drying out.

It may of had a Whiteline Anti Lift Kit (WALK) fitted, meaning the standard bushes won't fit anymore. The squeaking is usually from the front wishbone bushes, the front ones, the rear ones (front rear) are the console bushes which may of been changed to the WALK kit.

To confirm if these are the culprits the easy way to check if they are squeaking is with a can of WD40, just soak both wishbone bushes and leave overnight (don't do it on your drive without something underneath your car!)

This will cure the squeaking for about a month maybe more, but really new bushes is what is needed. If the WALK kit has been fitted and you want it back to standard you will need to buy bushes and the alloy housings to fit them into, ie. is going to get expensive so you may want to just buy another WALK kit. The way to tell if it has got a WALK kit fitted is to look under the car, just behind the front wheel you will see where the wishbone goes into the bush. On a standard car the bush will be black in an aluminium housing, on a WALK kit the bush will be yellow in a yellow/gold anodised housing.

Turn the steering on full left lock and look from the drivers side to see a bit easier.

Thanks vrs777 I will check the bushes to see. As I said before, Im not very experienced mechanically so fingers crossed! Any ideas on cost of replacement bushes and/or where to source these kind of parts?

I've had a look at the suspension/bushes this morning. Both the anti roll bar and bushes are red. Any ideas??

For new bushes have a look at awesome gti, they sell them, not sure who makes the red ones.

As others have said, I can't see why "shock absorbers" not being standard would mean that the bushes can't be sourced.

If the dealer guy had said that the bushes were not standard then I could understand, but i just don't get it. Damper and bush are not in any way linked!?

FWIW my first port of call would be the supplying dealer - if it creakes, get them to fix it OR if they don't, then quote sale of goods act etc.

Sorry, my mistake, it was the anti roll bar bushes not the shock absorbers!! If that makes any difference to your answer! :)

They are a straight swap back to standard, as long as the actual anti roll bar hasn't been upgraded which may be the case. But imo its the wishbone bushes that cause the squeaking and creaking noises .

ok, so back to the supplying dealer and get them to resolve your problem would be my suggestion?
