removing sticky residue

Featured Replies

Evening Briskodians

I recently did a little painting on the car. Masked up the area to be painted (as couldn't remove the part) but with all the rain recently the tape stayed on longer than it probably should have.

So anyway now I have a load of stubborn sticky residue stuck on the paint so if any of you lovely people could advise me as to the best way to remove without damaging the paint I would very much appreciate it.

WD40 removes most sticky residues (may take a couple of applications to clear it all) and will not damage the paint work - will remove the polish but just repolish when the area is clean

Isopropanol/Isopropyl alcohol is good for shifting that sorta gunk, but does anyone know it it is safe to use on your car's paint? I know people recommend it as a windscreen glass cleaner.

Hi, a while back i bought, from a craft shop, a can of 'sticky stuff remover'. Predominantly a yellow spray can & it does exactly as the name suggests. I used it to remove the dreaded frogs from the sides of my fun and two stickers from the tailgate that had been there forever and a day. It's a spray gel application that works a treat on adhesive residue etc and absolutely no effect on paintwork. Hope that helps.

Autosmart tardis

As post 2, WD 40 or GT 45 much cheaper than Tardis ect and just as quick , and safe

Thanks for the tips guys. Tried WD40 but think I had too much residue on for it to be effective.

So thanks to robk1 for his suggestion of sticky stuff remover, worked a treat!
