km to miles

Featured Replies

Hi folks, ive just taken delivery of my new Yeti urban 2.0lt in black,my last car was a VW Passat which didnt have half the tech that the Skoda does, i've managed to figure out most things but cant change the read out in the middle display from km per hour to miles, the vehicle is a British car with the speedy in miles, any ideas ?

My understanding is you can't do this from the 'pooter in the car - you need to track down someone with a special bit of kit.

Any idea how special this kit is ? Yeti brand new so garage should be able to help, you think ?

You need someone with VCDS to recode the dash cluster so it thinks its in Australia, then you switch all the display back to miles using the maxidot display settings.

The dealer cannot do this, as altering this setting means that the car is violating EU approval for use in the UK. The EU require that both MPH and KMH be displayed at all times, and because the main speedo only shows MPH the maxidot is used for KMH.

Bobs at it again but don't worry we have a corner to which we send him regularly  .

You will need one of the members with a lap top and the leads to recode your yeti, there is a list of members on here somewhere can't remember where that can do it for you, usually for the price of a beer or two, a dealer will not or cannot do the changes.

And welcome to the yeti club

And Mannyo can type faster than me

I thought I was going to be beaten to it.

Sounds cool, whatever the display

I'm not sure that is correct. Lots of cars don't have both MPH and KPH visible at the same. The KMH has to be "readily available" ie, it can be selected by means of a switch operated by the driver.

Why skoda do it the way they do for UK cars I don't know, but EU regulations isn't it.

It's exactly the same in my B Class, km only, not switchable. Not sure why they even offer miles in Australia, which has used km for decades?!

As said though, there is no requirement for both km/h and mph at the same time for EU type approval, just the ability to have either shown. My RX8 had a digital speedo which you could switch to and fro with the single push of a button on the dash. I guess having to use a menu system to switch it over isn't deemed easy enough?

What? What did I do this time? Why is it always me?

Because you love that corner  , trying to confuse a new member :D . Have a good day Bob  I'm not it p__ing down with :rain: again

Tech1e on this board tried to do mine last week. Basically it involves setting the country to Australia but the instructions in the VCDS thread didn't work. So if you have a new one like mine, there might be a sw upgrade needed to VCDS to sort it. Tech1e was going to check with the sw company (whose name escapes me) so I'm sure he'll post back when/if he gets any info.

Worked ok on my march 2012 Octy. How old is yours?

About the same. Some kind of authorisation error whenever it was tried.

Further to my post above, PM Domhnall ------ VCDS HEX+CAN owner (covers all VAG cars)he's in West Lothian - not too far from Ayr, but a good excuse to give the Yeti a run....

Someone mention my name?

;-)

+1 for Domhnall - he's magic!

Happy to give any car the "Strewth, Sheila, Bruce!" touch to achieve what people want here :D
