Tom Tom Go Update

Featured Replies

For those of you with tom tom Go the April 2005 update is now availabe at tomtom.com.

Added a few new features, will see if i like them tomorrow!!!

Yup I'm all upgraded to version 5 of the firmware. It adds full post code search if you are willing to shell out for the new maps when they are released...

Basically most of the options that are added are to support the new range of go hardware which has bluetooth... Strangly GPS reception seems to have been improved over v4.42 which others have reported too over on www.mytomtomgo.com/forum

Is this just for Go users, or people with TomTom Navigator v3 on their PDAs as well?

The last I heard, that would be out in May.

No its just firmware for the TTG not for the PDA version at the moment...:)

Right, that's what I suspected really. And I'm sure there'll be some cash involved for PDA people to move up to the new version...

Steve

Just downloaded the new firmware (thanks for the heads up on that  ). I found I had to remove the foreign language voices to give it the space to be able to install but other than that it looks good.

All I need now are updated maps so I don't appear to drive across fields when I head along the A10 to Ware or the A1198 around Caxton. Does anyone know when these might be available and how much they are likely to ask for the update?

  • 3 weeks later...

The new maps are now available for 79 Euros plus 9.95 Euros P&P.

The maps are delivered on a new SD card and include full UK post codes which should make it a bit easier.

For anyone who's been looking at the TomTom Go there will be three versions out by the end of the summer - the 300, 500 and 700 with various different features. Go to the TomTom site for full details. The 300 is already available.

Everytime I use mine now I seem to find something wrong with the maps!

One of my mates is interested in the new 700 - he's ordered it and been told he should have it around 10th may - i'm interested how the blue tooth phone bit works.

The 500 and 700 both sound interesting. IIRC the latter has a 2GB HD with full European map coverage installed as standard.

The latest news I've heard is that the 700 has been delayed until July. However anyone after them should shop around.

Some websites are going OTT on prices - boysstuff being one of them according to the tomtom forums.

Already ordered my upgrade SD...!

My updtaed map has finally been despatched.

On a seperate note has anyone noticed that pocket gps world have now broken the speed camera database into the different speed limits.

This is a great idea but I cannot get it to work. Normally so simple - just copy the bitmaps and Ov2 into the Great Britain Folder but does work for the speed related camera databases - either that or I'm doing something stupid!!!!

It was just me. Even though I've got a 512Mb SD card (with around 200MB free) there seems to a limit as to the number of POI list you can have.

I got a bit carried away earlier, downloading loads of POI's from Auidi dealerships to McDonalds, none of which I really need. After deleting a few it seemed to allow the Speed Cameras to work.

Seems like a good addition being able to see what speed limit your in, just in case your not sure.

Sounds useful. I'd be curious to know how you find it after a few days using it. My updated SD card should arrive tomorrow so once I've backed it all up I might add the database onto the card as well.

I've had the speed camera database for a while now - it is excellent and updated monthly (sometime twice a month) and its free!!!!

Now I've got the cameras split in to categories of the speed zone they are in irt is even better. It reminds you what speed youshould be at.

I didnot bother with the mobile speed camera being split into zones as I have only very occasionaly passed a mobile trap and so just went for the generic mobile database which covers them all, it just doesn't flash up what speed you should be doing.

Got my GB updated maps with full postcode search today! Very cool. If you like that sort of thing. Fortunately, I do!

Seems to have slowed the Tom Tom's key response slightly. Also, you get a pants "shutdown/startup" advert screen, which is strange, since if you've already got a Tom Tom, why would you need it advertising to you?

Just got mine and put in some standard journeys I have where bypasses opened last year. They are still not on there. Looks like I'll be ploughing across open fields at 70mph for a while yet!

Mine has arrived as well. Still reckons the best way to travel accross Tunbridge Wells is to go down the pedestrian zone - yes it would be quicker but not that popular. This has been a pedestrian zone for at least 12 years - maybe longer.

Postcode support is good. But I can't manage to get the new SD card to copy onto my 512Mb card.

It seems to copy ok but does not work. Will have a play around sometime.
