Fabia 1.2 rumbling Noise

Featured Replies

Can anyone give me any info on what could be causing a rumbling noise on passenger side front, it only happens when driving on an uneven surface. The car is very high mileage, but nothing showed up on the last service in october, apart from the front exhaust pipe had a tiny hole which I am going to have replaced this week as it has become noisier..I have only done 2500 miles since the last mot in August.

As I am female I dont want the garage baffling me with technical jargon and then charging me high prices for work that may not need doing, so any advice would be very helpfull :sun:

Many Thanks

Wheel bearing would be my first suspect, although I'm surprised it only does it on uneven surfaces - once they start to go they usually grumble all the time.

Worth checking the simple stuff first - put the steering on full-lock (when parked) and have a good look around in there to make sure there are no foreign objects trapped in the brake caliper or suspension that could be rubbing on the tyre or wheel.

If it does end up with a new wheel bearing then the ball-park figure should be about two hundred quid for a garage to do it. My sons 1.2 Fab needed one last year and the bill was £214 from Skoda.

Good luck with it.

Thanks so much for that advice,

I took it out this morning and studied the noise and I must admit there was also a bit of clunking going on when going over bumps. so I will check later for any foriegn objects.

Theres no noise or juddering on cornering, I dont know whether that would rule out a wheel bearing........thats just wishfull thinking on my part......but I must admit that when i spoke to my friend about this noise a while ago I said......... it sounds like Ive left a screwdriver somewhere under the bonnet!! Will check it out to-day. thanks again

Just a late update on the above issue. I asked my local garage in April to look for the cause and they couldnt find anything wrong!

I had the MOT done last week and it turned out to be the front drivers side Drop Link £40 incl. fitting.
