Internet problems

Featured Replies

hi all,

i have Tesco broadband and its been fine, no probs at all. to be honest i dont think its the problem just now but i dont realy know.

basically when i connect to broadband all goes fine and shows as being connected. i then try and open internet explorer, it opens but then it says page cannot be displayed even tho broadband is connected.

even when i run the diagnostic check it shows all is ok including the connection but states that there is something wrong with internet itself saying the server might be temp down.

if i disconnect and connect a few times and keep trying internet explorer it will eventually connect.

any ideas?

My Plus Net broadband sometimes plays up. Usually, it's just a case of rebooting the modem (pulling it out of the USB port, waiting a few seconds, and putting it back in). I did once have a problem with what was described by their technical support as a 'stale session'. The guy told me that I'd connected OK, but that something went wrong with the connection so that not only could I not connect to the internet, I couldn't access their system to log off the broadband connection and start again. I ended up having to wait for an hour for this stale session to time out, and then I was OK.

I've started to find that my connection can be quite slow at times now - we're talking slow for dial-up even. I'm not sure if this is to do with Norton hogging my resources even more than usual (seeing all the bug fixes that have been released for Windows lately, it might be doing some serious updating), or if I'm starting to have contention ratio problems with lots of people on the same exchange using Plus Net. The first one's potentially easy to solve - if it gets too much, I'll just get some different AV / firewall software. Not sure how to test for or solve the second one, though... :thumbdwn:

my only concern is that it has happened 2 days running, i thought it might have just been a one off

IE seems to have a persistent problem them it will sometimes give this error. This happens both at work and on my pipex broadband connection (different PCs)

Try hitting refresh a couple of times.

Other intermittent boradband problems can be caused by BT or even a faulty phone on in another socket (as happened to me).
