Valve Stem Oil Seals 1.9tdi

Featured Replies

So after my mega smoke after the Combe session Saturday I've got it into the garage today, initial diagnosis is possibly turbo oil seals, a valve stem oil seal or damaged piston ring.

It's only blueish/white smoke at low rpm when pulling off etc, pulls as normal and sounds normal.

The turbo was a brand new hybrid fitted in January so I'm kind of reluctant to think its that at the moment, we checked the top IC pipe connection and there wasn't really any excess oil, the bottom pipes coming off tomorrow.

So has anyone heard of the valve stem oil seals failing on the 1.9tdi? Is it a head off job or not.

Seriously inclined to fix and sell up at the mo, for all that 220bhp is fun its not got off to a great start!!

So far since August I've replaced...gearbox, clutch, flywheel, intercooler, turbo, bushes etc etc :p it's an 07 plate on 60k! Was standard (and f**ked I now realise) when I bought it.

Maybe tomorrow I'll be a little more up beat!

Cheers :)

Chin up fella. These thing happen when running "big powah!" I've had to replace a bunch of stuff in the last 12 months too, radiator, DMF, console bush frame, etc.

You do sometimes think "is it worth it" then you go for a drive and the answer is always yes!!

I feel your pain. Cambelt and waterpump due on the Roomster this month :-(

Well i'll jump on the bandwagon as well!

got £200 tax on the sdi, £130 tax on the 1.2, £2000 insurance due in 4 days, mot & service on the sdi £40!

all within the next two weeks

I had something similar recently. 1.9 ASZ. Had a pd150 on it. The car would run and drive as normal. Loads of bluey white smoke when round town as soon as on boost no smoke at all. Had a smell of diesel aswell. After lots of moneys decided to put original turbo back on and hey presto all back to normal.

Maybe something to consider?

have you managed to find out whats causing your problem? ive just put a pd150 hybrid on my car and now mine is smoking like you wouldnt beleive. mine isnt mapped yet but i dont think a map could cause the amount of smoke im getting.

Anyone get to bottom of this as ive just had a hybrid fitted and getting white smoke at low revs. Completely clears when above about 1600rpm. Has me stumped! Not loosing any oil or coolant and no sign of oil anywhere. Car still running a 130 turbo map.

Did you guys replace your turbo's after one failing?. If so is most likely oil in the exhaust or catalyst if you have one, from the old turbo giving up. More money but i guess you could try a new exhaust. Hope you get sorted .

Bargain exhaust here unless the turbo went on this car :

Edit : I have just seen the power your running so i guess you have a custom exhaust anyway.
