Bluetooth Retrofit 'Plug n Play' Wiring Loom Question

Featured Replies

My Bluetooth kit arrived today, pretty exciting. It looks straightforward, one huge male quadlock to the car, a lead to the huge female quadlock which will go to the Columbus headunit, and then a breakout in the middle to the 9W7 (5K0 035 730 E) Bluetooth Module. Simples.

The microphone cable has a Male plug on the end A, the loom has Two Female plugs (B and C) and One Male plug D. B Goes directly to the Bluetooth Module. C and D go directly to the headunit. So it seems I can either

  1. Connect the Microphone plug A directly to the Bluetooth module B - I'm sure this will work, at least for the telephone. C and D are left dangling, and this is how the loom was supplied in its packet.
  2. Connect the Microphone plug A into the Columbus C, and connect the Columbus D to the Bluetooth module B. The cable length for D and B strongly suggest that they can be plugged into each other. My imagination tells me this might be required for voice control, but it is only a guess. I don't know for sure whether C and D pass through from one to another, or whether they are for something completely different altogether.

Can someone please help to clarify whether what I am thinking is correct or nonsense. Also, does anyone have a pinout for the small telephone connector inside the quadlock - that would put me at ease.

TIA

Okay, its all installed and works great.

I went with (2), connected the Mic to Columbus and then from Columbus to the Bluetooth box - works great for both Voice Control and the Phone. Should have read this page earlier, explains everything: http://www.my-gti.com/1234/volkswagen-rns-510-microphone-connection-for-voice-control

Also, as well as there being a helpful diagram on my-gti for the microphone pinouts (which make the dangling leads make sense), that diagram is also on the top of the Columbus. Handy.

Glad you got it working. Second option does give you more functionality.

My GTI is a great source of info for the Octavia / Golf owner. Would recomend people look there for info as well as Briskoda.
