Christmas update!

Hi all,

I though id start a progress blog as it seems be the car is evolving pretty quickly from standard! I originally bought the car completely stock and wanted to keep it that way. My previous car was a little diddy 106 for 3 years fully modified with race interior and and smoothed euro look.

I originally wanted to get an Audi A4 B7. After weeks of searching I decided it was to much money. For years I have been taking the mickey out of my parents from owning a Octavia estate 1.6. Granted its quite nippy when it needs to be. Any who back on point. I suggest as a joke I would look at a Octavia Vrs, well theres when I fell in love with the one I currently own. Did the usual test drive looking over the car after finding a very useful buyers guide on here and the car was mine. 90k on the clock 2 owners, cat 1 alarm( with annoying panic button ).

It wasn't long till some issues arose. mainly one of the boost pipes had split which meant no power at all. Took it to my local garage to get checked over. They said its a very tidy car with no major faults and that it was a good buy. They arranged for it to be booked in within 2 days for the boost pipe swap. I couldn't wait 2 days so decided to tackle the job myself, I had some old silicon hose lying about luckily it was a perfect fit proper bodge job but it will work till the new pipe gets fitted still there now after 3 months!

Serious stuff now, it was 4 days before I had the car custom remapped by my local vw specialist. The power output now is much better and boosts upto 18/19 psi. I'm very happy with this due to the fact that if I want anything adding or taking away from the map it is just a 5 minute trip to see them.

One of the first jobs I had to do on the car was fit some of my old audio equipment mainly head unit/speakers/amp. After seeing a progress blog on here that someone had fitted a tool kit in with the tyre it had to be down with the amps and all the wiring. Its nicely stowed away and is a completely clean look. In keeping with the standard look of the car.

After many weeks of driving I decided I needed some colour in the car because the 'fake carbon' dash surround was just annoying the hell out of me. Instead of painted I decided to sticker bomb it as I had a load of stickers for a birthday present here is about 3 weeks worth of stickers. A new addition is Turbozilla on the fuel cap.

IMG_0722.jpg

After that it was onto the horrible chrome grill at the front. I managed to get all the chrome off the surround so I was able to get a proper surface to paint onto I also painted the pull out vents in the same purple.

I will update this tomorrow with more goodies - wheels - radiator mounts - liquid gauge - problems and fun !

That centre console trim is crazy man :) i love it, first glance i thought it was marvel and was oooooooooooo wow :D

Not marvel but still love it :)

I wana see the fuel cap

Yeah its just a few random stickers from tongue automotive and a sticker bomb book, I realise that turbozilla is JDM but who says it cant cross over?

Back to progress blog -

After going to wales and enjoying the winding roads a tad to much I discovered a knocking noise at the front. Originally I though it was drop links. Turns out it was one of them and more importantly my steering rack has a lot of movement in it. This is not what I need but this must be fixed. Very OCD when it comes to having things right plus it makes a hell of a clonk over every bump crack or unseen pothole in the road and is very annoying!

Managed to get a few buyers on some of my stuff from the pug 106 and bought a lovely set of dished and staggered Team Dynamics Driftz off ebay. I originally looked at a set of tsw deep dishes but decided on these.

KGrHqRrQE88hJMt8iBPlBICSzhg60_12.jpg

- I am stuck on colour choice for these I know I want the spokes to match the front grill. It is a lot darker than in the picture I've posted but do I stay polished lips or go for a colour?

I've bought a liquid gauge for the car because I like a much more smoothed and originalish looking dash. It is in the centre vents as I did not fancy loosing the right hand side one and having the windows mist up all the time. I have nothing but praise for this dial it does just about everything except wash the car. It is good piece of kit and highly recommended.

One thing I have noticed about the car is the issue with the rad mounts which annoyed me every time the door shut these had to be changed. I managed to do it in under a few hours minus the indicator light coming apart in my hand it was easy enough. Procured new lens for both side and some chrome indicators to tidy it up a bit.

I'm toying with matt blacking the car with plasti dip, has any one used it on paint at all? does it just look like a halford rattle can jobbie or can you get decent results out of it if preps properly?

Spec's of the car so far : -

Big mouth front bumper

Purple badge surround with matching air vent trims at front

Forge 007p

PiperCross panel filter

Custom stage 1 remap

Liquid gauge

sticker bomb centre console

JL audio C5

JL audio HD 4x600

Focal Access 130 A1

Alpine 126BT hu.

Next things are coilovers stance enhancing shims and polybush undecided what to get first!

Sticker bomb looks brilliant. Get some more pics up of the rest of it.

I shall go out next weekend and get some beauty shots of the car as it has been to over cast the last few weeks to get anything half way decent

Well mr grumpy post man arrived yesterday to drop off my wheels. They are awesome and very staggerd : -

IMG_0734.jpg

I ended up test fitting the rears today as it was what I was most worried about. In need of 10/15mm spacers and some serious lip rolling as the 9j are rather big.

IMG_0736.jpg

One thing I cant do now is put some stance on the rears as I suspect they will rub and grind away half of the inner wheel arch and struts. but they will look awesome once finished even if it takes me a while to get all the bits I need

Well a quick update as I had a day off I though I would test paint one of the wheels to see what the colour looked like. I'm unsure if it will look any good mainly because I've only seen the wheels without tyres but we shall see!

Snappy Snappy :- (yes love the instagram filters :/)

By the looks of the wheel arch I could happily run 20's, ohh how things are deceiving!

Show off :p

Yeah I am not a ridiculous amount though as I do like take corners rather fast and dont fancy popping them off the rim.

Yeah I will drop them when they have been painted and had a shine. Thanks for the heads up!

Nor can I, all I can say is tyre squall isn't a fad its a way of life!

Well managed to score a brand new (reconditioned) steering rack for a total of 65 of your english pounds. Yep tidy little score there including fitting. Ohh the warranty company are paying the rest :giggle:

Went off to japfest on the weekend. saw quite a few jap cars broken down on the side of the road. what a hassle that show was people using satnavs shouldnt be aloud on the road at these times I mean 3 hours to go 2 miles is just a joke. anywho saw some good drifters and some nice stickers for the car. Going to sticker bomb the engine cover after I have the wheels done. :)

Here are just a few shots I've taken over the last week mainly had my briskoda sticker arrive in the post :)

Well slightly bad update today, managed to go into the back of someone yesterday. :( wasn't a major crash just annoying he had stopped coming off a roundabout to have a look at a crash and nearly gone into the back of someone himself. told insurance people but not going to need it as managed to source all parts cheap enough and get the bonnet open as the catch for it was pretty managed. so parts needed are bonnet catch the little piece of metal that opens it and front grill. My paint skills I'm quite impressed with as it took a bit of a beating and still has 98% of its paint on it :)

We after taking the bumper off to repair the nice exhaust sized hole in it I discovered that the crash bar was bent, seems the car had submarined under the ford.

IMG_0802.jpg

So on the hunt for a new crash bumper, hopefully find one of ebay or go to a scrap yard in the week before I start work. Managed to cut the hole open a bit more and pop it back into place and filler and carbon fibre the bumper and smoothed it out took around 3 hours and saved myself the cost of a new front bumper.:) results look pretty good

IMG_0808.jpg

Will get some pics when its back on the car tomorrow. Didn't bother painting the bumper in black magic due to matt blacking the car at the end of the month just put some satin black on it.

If it works for the wagon there's no way my tyres would slip them!:)

Well after a stressful few days I've managed to get 90% of all the bits I need to rebuild the car(

insert comedy quote about the 6 million dollar man here ). Slam panel is on order and will be here for the weekend. Ended up going to skoda for most of the parts as it was easier than try and get them off ebay and othere places. Managed to get the crash bar however from ebay at 40 quid so thats alright. Just need to rummage though my old stuff and sell things to get the car back to looking proper plus move forward with the things I want to do. Will hopefully get the slam n crash bar fitted over the weekend.

Looking good mate, loving the wheels (not mad keen on the purple), I thought sticker bombing was old hat now, loving it (are you bringing it back lol)?

Marko

It was never dead. Just like stickers and it brightens up the interior a lot!

Well a little update really finally picked up the slam panel managed to swap it over in just under 3 hours, which isn't bad going. So now I'm shopping about for wheel refurb companies locally as the lovely tax man sent me a nice cheque. Also looking at spax coil overs. Hopefully get those at the end of the month. I am also off to le mans next weekend courtesy of michelin tires so hopefully i can steal some for my car! :D:rofl::rock:

Well small update finally got round to wiring up the front speakers to the amp after a very exhausting trip to le mans which was AWESOME! The wheels are now at the powder coaters so will hopefully get them back in 2 weeks due to colour matching with my grill.
