Time to upgrade(?) mobile phone

Well I suppose the simple fact you're keeping it even after the two *crucial* things you needed don't work right is an answer in itself ;)

No, only one. The Exchange integration is absolutely bang on the money. :) :) :)

I'm gonna have a play with the voice control/dialling system at the weekend.................could just be something simple as pilot error. ;)

Don't need to control the phone by voice, beyond dialling of numbers, and even that has taken a turn as I'm no longer mobile 99% of the time and it's just people calling me. As for the automatic switching, have seen that you can have multiple profiles (like the Nokia), so that'll be on the play list at the weekend.

The idea of dictating a message (either SMS or Email) disturbs me greatly. The only place you could possibly want to do this, is the lst place that you last should be doing this..........in the car.

So, is the S2 worth looking at? Hell yes! Does it have navigation on-board? (with safety-spot stuff?) Yes / with an extra app(here in Ireland) works really well. Even in Ireland. Which says someth

If you have a Samsung Galaxy S2 and it is running Gingerbread as it's OS (2.3.4) then LEAVE IT THERE. DO NOT do the so called upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich, it's highly bug ridden, loads of people ar

Might be getting my S2 today (a relative bargain at £160, used but in VGC). Anyone running non-Samsung ROMs on theirs, I'm considering popping on Cyanogenmod9?

Have ordered the official Samsung car-dock today, so that should help.

Odd thing over the weekend though.......it didn't like having the wall-charger plugged in. Friday night to Tuesday night it was a struggle to get it to recognise the charger. Then Wednesday morning it worked again, and has done since, without issue. Definitely a phone issue as when I restarted the phone with the charger already plugged in, it charged no problem. The only thing I can think of is that it didn't like being on a break from home. :o

Used the navigation the other day. Not bad. Gave instructions in sufficient time and compensated very quickly when I ignored it. The idea of showing a picture of your destination when you're close is a cracking idea too! The voice was quiet, but will sort that when the dock arrives.

One of the apps I'm running now is Profile Scheduler. Is something that they should include in the next update of the O/S. Can definitely say as long as the power issue doesn't return, there is no going back from this now.

Maybe I'll consider reading the manual next. ;)

Update:

Car-dock arrived on monday, 5 minute install and all is good with it. (Will hide all the wires at the weekend). Profile Scheduler does it's thing when connected, after a little tweak. I think the 3.5-3.5mm cable is faulty, as there's a lot of interference. This was one from Sherlodge Skoda, so suspect it was a cheapie anyway. Plus will have to get a Y-connector for the pocket DAB unit to connect. (May be we need more AUX ports ;) )

Call-control is greatly improved by having the screen visible, and caller announcement is through the Nokia kit instead of the internal speaker, so music is muted etc. Voice activation/call hang up is still done through the Nokia kit. Again Profile Scheduler switches the Bluetooth on when connected to the car-dock and shuts off when disconnected. All the sound functions now come out through the Stream. So pretty much all the original boxes are ticked now. :)

However one thing has come to light..........

As the Stream MP3 seems to be a little jumpy with CDR/CDRWs, have started to use the SGS2 for music. Am happy with the quality, especially as it's: MP3, in a car, over an analogue cable. My next quest is better MP3 play software.......needs bigger buttons on the screen. Don't need stupid graphics etc, just big buttons (Next, Play/Pause and Last) and the ability to resume play where you left off. After a couple of goes (Sadly Winamp crashes too often), have settled on Double Twist for the time being. (Buttons are bigger than the original player, but still not big enough)

If anyone knows on a better one it would be greatly appreciated.
