I have just had a towbar fitted by a reputable (or so I thought) fitter.

I scanned the car last night before it was fitted and there were no fault codes recorded. Not surprising as the car has only done about 300 miles from new.

What is the best plan of attack as it is a hastle, and time off work, to take it back?

Can I just clear all of the faults and see if they come back?

The only coding difference between the last scan and this one isAddress 69: Trailer (J345) has appeared and Address 10: Park/Steer Assist (J446) where the original coding was 10800E and now it is 11800E.

The car appears to drive and behave correctly.

I can assure you it is totally normal for some faults to appear after making connections to the CANbus. It may be possible they unplugged the CAN to make the connections which would throw up a series of temporary faults. We carry out a fault clear before and after we fit a vehicle specific kit.

If any faults remain as static faults rather than sporadic (which some of the above faults are) then you know something is not right but chances are, providing everything was put back as it was, all faults will clear and stay cleared.

You may just want to check 1) if the trailer lights work as they should as there are faults saying no communication of the trailer module and 2) that the necessary programming was also carried out to enable the bulb fail indication and PDC cut-out when the vehicle is put in reverse with the trailer connected.

EDIT: having just read the last paragraph, it seems that if the coding for trailer and park assist has changed then it would appear they have carried out the coding, just not cleared the faults after installtion.

Thanks for the reassurance Phil.

I spoke to the fitter and as they were short staffed they forgot to clear any fault codes before returning the car to me.

I have now cleared all of the DTCs and, hopefully they will not return.

Dana at Ross Tech also thought that they were created during installation of the towbar and that nothing was seriously wrong.

I will also connect my trailer board and see what lights up both inside and outside the car.
