Did anyone else folding lose anything?

Featured Replies

Today, both my PCs decided to lose where they were in the middle of the WU they were working on, and started again from zero? Any way I can find out what happened?

I've taken the move of uninstalling it off my older PC as it was just crashing all the time. Anyone know a nice cheap way I can install XP on it?

But my faster PC also lost its data it had been working on for 8 hours plus.... :( Damned annoying.

Anyone else have their folding client start again from scratch today? :thumbdwn:

Ooooh, something new.... Just found how to access the log file in the client... Can anyone analyse this and make sense of it... I think the words "it went nuts" is the best description...

I have seen that one or two times, usually happens if my PC crashes. I now close the client down before shutting down.

For the windows client, right click on the red rose and click quit. For the console click inside window and press ctrl c at the same time.

It is the windows client., Manny - and it looks like maybe there was a power cut at home which killed the PC (no U.P.S attached to it....)

Had another thing this morning - overnight a windows update auto installed and rebooted my PC for me. :grumpy: The problem is the client doesn't auto boot at startup. :( Is there a setting I can change to make sure it boots up when my PC boots up (like AVG,spyware & lan icons do)

My windows 98 machine used to boot up the folding client on startup - XP one doesn't...

Dont think you can with the XP client, But you can install the console version as a windows service that runs on startup. Can be tricky though if you dont know what you are doing, and you need to view the logfile to see where you are upto.

To install console as service after you have downloaded it, created a folder on the HD and put FAH-502CONSOLE.exe in the folder.

Go to the command prompt (start > run then type cmd).

Use the cd command to change to where the .exe file is (eg. CD c:\folding)

type: FAH502-CONSOLE -config and press return

fill in the info as you did when you installed your windows client (username, teamnumber etc.)

You will be asked if you want to install as a service, simply type Y and press Return

Once complete the console program will run in the dos window, simply press ctrl+c to abort it and reboot your machine.

Once restarted, select run then enter services.msc and return. From the list make sure FAH-502 is "started" and then check the logfile to make sure all is well.

 Think it will be safer for me to just double click the desktop icon every time. ;)

I run the XP console, and just put a shortcut in my Start Menu/Startup folder. So Jase, I'd just copy your desktop icon in there...

Job done :)

Steve

Yep that should sort it :)

Remember though that using the service is recommended as it will work without logging in, unlike the other option :)

True, I just found it easier to setup and manage. My PC runs 24/7 and logs itself in anyway so no problem there :)

 Didn't even know there was a startup bit in there. :o See? I've not had time to thoroughly check through the PC yet.

Come on Jase, there's been a Startup area since Windows 3.1 days :D

So that's no excuse ;)
