Plastic cowling missing from air intake

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Just noticed, when looking at pictures of mk2 Octavia VRS's that I am missing what appears to be the top piece of the first part of the air intake, running from the front grille to the wide end of the triangular-like piece where the pipe narrows in width. I have an open top-half to this; I could put my hand in if I wanted.

No idea it was supposed to be there until now! I was wondering if this is at all negative. I guess it does mean that the air being sucked into the engine is a little warmer than it would be, but other than that it can't be much of an issue I guess?

I say it's only a piece of plastic, it might be two?, but I'll give the stealers a call and see how much they want to rob me for a replacement piece unless I can find one on eBay.

Are there any exploded diagrams around with part numbers etc.?

Thanks.

Is it the lid off the air resonator box that's near the grill? If so its only about 3 pounds off Skoda as I broke a clip on mine and replaced the lid.

They usually fall off if you have it dealer serviced as the unprofessional " mechanics "do not do the screws on right after taking of to do Air filter

In this image (googled it, is on this forum originally so you might recognise your car  ) http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/228617_10150576778685584_569460583_18498149_1561230_n.jpg it's the wide part of the air intake with the flat top. I think I am missing the part with the flat top and the slightly concave curved piece downwards towards the front grille, unsure if this is one piece or not from the pictures. I have the bottom half, so I have like a tray goign to the frong frille, not a pipe!

Good to know it's only a few quid, next time I'm nearby I'll pop in and get one. Had nightmares of VW when I had to buy a crank case breather hose for my Mk2 16v and it cost North of 60 notes :@

Do I need some fittings as well then (you mention screws) and it's not just clip on?

Had a closer look - it's just the flat bit, the bits either side of it on the pipework are in tact so I'll pop to the dealers at some point and try and order one in. Thanks for the advice guys.

I picked up one of these from the dealers on friday for the grand total of £2.70 something plus VAT. Fits fine and keeps the whole intake square now, so hopefully the two pieces will stop breaking apart when I go over potholes/speed bumps now!
