Tips on installing a Walbro fuel please

Featured Replies

Been reading the MK 4 forum and seems few folks modify the pump to fit. I thought these were just a intank replacement as such that you reuse the OEM pump housing etc but it is then just plug and play.. The MK forum suggest drillig a small hole to overcome fuel starvation issues on cornering when the fuel tank is low..?

appreciate feedback..

Hey up Mark,

Now that's not like you lol. I was hopin for a how to guide by now.

I thought it was a case of just stripping the std pump out the housing and puttin the new one in. Mmmm

Glad I got the lcr one now. Mine came yest. Was gonna buy one of the walbro ones too and mod my pump and sell on for a tad more as the work was done but guess ill leave that idea.

Tbh tho mate, even when the light is on and the needle is on bottom and miles say 0 there is still a fair bit of fuel in it. I ran that old 51 car all out or so I thought but I still got between 7-10 l lol was really surprised. Plus the return fuel goes back into the housing by look of it so that will feed engine a tad unless you constantly turning for prolonged periods.

Keep us posted tho mate

I fitted a walbro pump to my volvo when i had it and had to strip the standard tank sender unit down and remove the old pump and fit new one in its place but it wasn't a straight fit and i ended up putting a hose clip round it to help hold it in place,

Also the standard connector didn't fit so have to de solder the terminals and resolder the new walbro wiring back on,

According to people on forum it was a straight swop, they have obviously never done it then because it wasn't,

If i put one in vrs i think i would be tempted to get a second hand sender unit and replace the pump rather than butchering the unit in car in case it wasn't a straight swop

If you don't know, what chance have us mere Mortals got :giggle:
