My Octavia 2-a really nasty part.

Featured Replies

Overall ,generally speaking, by and large my Octavia 2 is beautifully put together. I really love the way the panels align, the way the doors clunk, (REALLY like the way the doors clunk ) the fit and finish on the dash and the doors, the nicely finished boot space (have you ever stuck your head in a Nissan boot and had a look around ?)

But, or even BUT, two places on my Octavia are really nasty.

The place where the bottom corners of the windscreen and the plastic trim hiding the wiper motor meet (whatever it is called) is crappy. It really looks like some trainee designer got to Friday afternoon and thought oh sod it I've had enough that will do lets see if I can get away with it. It is nasty and looks decidedly non water tight to me. Shoddy.

Question . Should I gob a load of silicon sealant on it ? What does anyone think?

Squeeze in some p.u.adhesive/bonding/sealant stuff?? Its black at least so might be a litle less obvious its been done as an after-thought. ;)

Thanks Jason. Do you have a brand name for said black gunk?

Is it a Halfords line ?

If it is a defect, maybe pointing it out (nicely) to your dealer would help?

If you take it in a few months down the line, with a DIY sealant job showing, they might not do anything about it... (depends what your dealer is like!)

Good point. But is it a defect ?

The various bits of plastic ,rubber, glass metal all seem to be how they are intended to be but don't really seem to have been thought through.

It just looks like a collision of parts that dont quite know how to get on together.

It should quite simply have been better designed IMO of course.

I really don't think it is a defect unless it is a defect that crept on to the drawing board.

No, I reckon it is black gunk .

This black gunk is techincally called polyurethane (hence p.u) bonding adhseive, and it comes with many labels unfortunately. My local motor factors had some for

I would first speak to the dealer, point out your concerns, maybe get them to raise a defect report (whatever skoda call it) through Skoda, then ask them to gunk it! PS have you compared it with others to confirm it is assembled correctly! just a thought.

After having a new screen fitted I took the car back to the dealer as I was sure that some trim was missing by the wiper blades. After reading all above Im glad that others have noticed this. The loose rubber bit is there to help water drain away I was told so I would'nt glue or stick anything to this. As the wiper blades are below the airflow caused by the bonnet I guess that Skoda have tried to save money on this area. Shame as it spoiles an otherwise great car. Checked the other cars in showroom and they were all the same.

I noticed this part on My O2 was not fitting well after it came back from the fitting of a towbar. On inspection I found that the plastic cover clips neatly and firmly into the base of the windscreen and into the rubber seal at the front. When fixed properley there is no reason to suggest anything shoddy about it.

Only thing I found was when adjusting washer jet I happened to lean on the plastic 'mesh' part of this cover which is a little fragile

- although nothing a spot or two of Superglue failed to fix.

The main problem I find is a result of the lack of a seal on the front of the engine bay to prevent dirt entering. Anyone no where i could get a strip similar to that which seals he back of the bay against the bonnet without a trip to a dealer? My previous Bora had this and nothing got into the engine bay.

Cheers

How about some self adhesive draught excluder?
