OPS not working since vehicle specific trailer wiring installed

Featured Replies

Good evening,

I have had a towbar fitted with the vehicle specific wiring harness -Overall I am delighted with the install its very neat and tidy - the vehicle notifies me if any of the bulbs are out on the trailer & the reversing sensors correctly get deactivated when a trailer is connected.

The problem I have is that ever since the vehicle was recoded the OPS display on the Amunsden+ head unit does not show the overview of the vehicle and the distances of obstacles from the rear of the car.- The reversing sensors still beep but there is no visual representation.

I am taking the vehicle to get it looked at by the manufacturer of the vehicle specific harness but was wondering if anyone else has had the same issue and if so how it was fixed??

Also - for any of you with vehicle specific harnesses on the yeti - when a trailer is attached (and there are no bulb faults) is there anything that shows on the maxidot or the headunit which tells you that there is a trailer attached - (you could argue that I shoudn't need reminding  )

Can anyone shed any light or share your experiences please??

Many Thanks

Who fitted the kit? Is it CAN compliant?

The sensors should be disabled when towing

Can't be coded correctly.

You should still have the pictorial display showing and when a trailer board is plugged in (or a trailer / caravan etc) you get a picture of the car coupled up to a trailer.

I believe that it is a CAN compliant kit (its manufactured by right connections http://www.rightconnections.co.uk/)

It was fitted by MDS towbars who seem a very professional outfit - other than the OPS not working the install was perfect and a really good price. Neither they nor autologic (the programming device manufacturer) have never come across this problem before (and I know that a lot of Briskoda members have used them and been pleased with them).

I think I was that 1 in a 10000 that has a problem

Gizmo68 - you mentioned that you get a picture of a car connected to a trailer if there is any sort of light board attached - does this picture normally show on the maxi dot or the head unit??

On the head unit

On the head unit

This is how it would look:

Thanks for the information Gizmo68 It looks like the vehicle on the picture shown has front parking sensors (as you can see the marked out zones to the front of the car)- Mine doesn't have front sensors  so I guess that the picture wont come up?

Is the head unit on the picture a Bolero - Mine is the amunsden+ but I am guessing that the same rules should apply?

I am guessing that , because my rear parking sensors are deactivated when a trailer board is attached, the vehicle should turn on the Trailer Stability Package - does anyone know how to check that this is the case??

Many Thanks for everyones help....... this has got to be the best forum i have subscribed to

If the car has been reprogrammed correctly then you should get that display. It has nothing to do with whether front sendors are fitted or not.

I suggest you take it back and get them to do it properly!

The installer has arranged that I can take it to the factory that makes the wiring harnesses, as it is relatively close, and they are going to recode it..

Fingers crossed........

I suspect what you are seeing is a reflection not a front sensor marking...

I have a Bolero and mines showes 'North - South' rather than the 'East - West' shown above

When you go to 'Right Connections' at Telford mention this to the guys there - I got them to check mine (everything else was working normally, it's just that there is no visible indication - except when you need it!!)

I too had mine fitted by MDS (I think I was the original one) whilst he was programming it he did have a brief telephone conversation with Telford, it was a question that there was no obvious answer to on his computer display.

However, everthing has workied perfectly from day one - I too just had a doubt about the trailer stability control, which is why I went to Telford.

One interesting note, I 'rewired' my caravan to 13pin electrics - done properly with 13 core cable, soldered joints and heat shrink sleeves and insulation. Now the caravan alarm works properly and doesn't need re-setting every time I tow, and if you set both the car and the caravan alarms when you leave the vehicle BOTH will go off if somebody disconnects the 13 pin plug (usually me!!!)

Many Thanks for everyones help....... this has got to be the best forum i have subscribed to

Thanks Millstone - There is definitely a grid showing at the front of the car symbol - agreed there is some reflection but I can just make it out.

Its sounds like the guys at Telford know their stuff - which is good :-)

Incidentally - has your yeti got front parking sensors?

How long did it take for Right Connections to sort it all out?

if its not too long then I wont need to drop the wife into Telford to spend money while I am there

An update

I have been to right connections in Telford this morning and they have recoded the yeti and the ops now works (and shows a trailer when one is connected).I asked them how I know that the TSP is enabled when a trailer is attached - when you turn on the ignition if the orange light with the skid marks on it stays on longer than the other lights then tsp is active.

If anyone is interested right connections (the vehicle specific wiring harness manufacturer) have their own tow bar fitting centre in Telford in the same unit as them. (http://www.gentow.co.uk/) - they seem a very competent and professional outfit

Delighted that you have got it sorted - I have always had every faith in Right-Connections, and only went to get re-assurance that theTSP was working - they said it was but didn't tell me about the orange light staying on longer - I will look out for this.

Also pleased you followed my suggetions re MDS towbars, I too was very pleased with them.

If you tow a caravan look out for me on CC sites - Fleetwood Heritage 560/4 - though we are off to France next week, just hope the weather improves !!

Following Millstone's recommendation, MDS are fitting a detachable tow bar to my Yeti on Tuesday next.

I will report back on completion.

I realy should identify myself to MDS - I think by now they probably owe me some commission !!!
