Collinite or Meguiars?

Featured Replies

Bit new to these other makes as I've been using Autoglym SRP for years so want to try something else better.

When we get some better weather I will be compounding scratches and swirls out with a rotary polisher and then want to seal and wax.

What is everyone's preferences of these too polishes?

I want a deep glass look shine that will last better than SRP. I've also looked at Zymol but the price!! Is it possible to machine polish/finish those 2 types if polishes or finish by hand?

Appreciate anyone's help.

Thanks.

As Chris says, you're getting a little confused between polishes and waxes, which do different things. Use a polish or a glaze, then a wax or sealant on top of that. SRP then Collinite 476s wax on top is what I do at the moment, though I've got some some Amigo to try instead of the SRP. Not sure the 476s will like it mind. The 476s can be a bit tricky to work with, but it's quite a tough wax that lasts longer than a lot of others, and I cant be arsed waxing every couple of months. Not sure SRP and Collinite will give you the deep gloss you are after though. I'd try some Black Hole or Amigo, with Naviwax Dark over the top. This is my plan, and should give a good deep gloss shine. Machine will generally always give a better result with the kind of products mentioned.

I had this discussion on here before and it's the polishing that gives the shine, the subsequent wax or sealant mainly protects the finish rather than enhancing it. SRP is still pretty much the best of the hand applied polishes, if you want it to last then go over it with Autoglym's EGP, it's designed to bond to SRP. Otherwise Collie 476S is good on all paint types and FK1000P is possibly better on lighter colours such as silver.

Of course, machine correction and polishing will always produce a better result and I'm afraid I've no knowledge of what sort of products to use there, I know SRP can be applied by machine but I suspect products designed for machine application will work a lot better.

what about still using srp , then use the autogylm hd wax on top that should give it more gloss and protection!

Another shout for SRP + Collinite here.

although i might add the srp topped with coliinite 476 is a very good combo, its currently on my wifes mini!

Depending on the amount of correction your paint requires I would suggest using either the Menzerna range of polishes or Gtechniq P1. Both will give best results when applied using a macine polisher.

After the paint is corrected I would suggest you use a cleaner like DoDo Juice Lime Prime or Carlack 68 NSC to lock in the shine that the machine polish should (hopefully  ) leave. Then a wax or sealant over the top to protect all your hard work.

Of the two products you mention I would use the Collinite. I have used it with CarLack in the past (when i had a metallic grey car)and the two complement each other very well. I moved over to using FK1000p a while ago when I got my lastest car (Corrida Red) and have been happy with the results that leaves.

Since Xmas I have really fallen for the Getchniq range of products. I am forcing myself to use up the remaining products I have before I spend more cash on the Getchniq sealant range.

The autoglym first, for extra shine add a polish on top, collinite wax last. 915 is the shiniest but 845 is easier to apply as its a paste as opposed to solid carnuba wax

Thanks for all the help/advice guys.I have a large bottle of SRP still leftover and have bought some Collinite 476s off the Bay so will try these first.

Got some Meguiars compound too so will put this on first to remove all the swirls/scratches and machine it all up.
