Electrical Issues

Featured Replies

Problems as follows, I have done a search but cannot find a answer.

The doors Lock/Unlock when you press the switch on the panel on the driver's armrest but only the rear two, the passager side locks then pops back up and the drivers lock does nothing,

Drivers side mirror doesnt work, the button oprates the pass side mirror in both postions,

All doors can be locked via the central locking on the key in the drivers door lock, the remote will do all but the drivers door,

The LED near the lock doesnt light up in any case,

Also the headlight-on warning buzzer doesnt work and the courtesy light fails to illuminate when the drivers door is opened.

I have checked the connector on the black box inside the door, and there was a sign of water ingress but all the pins were still intact I did spray some electric contact cleaner but no change to any of the above.

I'm at a loose end and this issue is very annoying, I would appreciate some help.

Thanks in advance Lee.

Lights on warning buzzer must be a problem with the wiring behind the light control switch in the dash.

Does the courtesy light come on when any of the other doors are opened? If not then I'd look at a problem with the light itself, if it does come on then the problem must be your drivers door open/closed sensor (IIRC its a little rubber grommet in the sill that the tab on the door presses into).

Passenger side door lock mechanism may just need a strip down and regrease as it sounds like it may be stiff if its locking but then popping back up again.

Drivers side mirror and issues with the locking on the drivers door may be water ingress into the wiring in the footwell behind the A-pillar trim, or damage to the wiring as it goes through the rubber tubing into the door.

If you don't fancy having a go at doing any of these bits yourself then at least take your door cards off and re-fit the handles so if it gets to the stage where one of the locks completely fails then at least a garage will be able to get the door open to repair it without doing too much damage.

The more of these threads I see the more it puts me off buying another Mk1 Octavia. I had a mate (DJM123 on here) who ended up spending over £600 getting his central locking fixed and given the cars are only worth a couple of grand now it's a bit worrying.

drivers door micro switch can cause these problems, the problem can be either the wiring to the drivers door of the lock itself

Lee30, I know this is an old post but I'd be interested to know what the problem turned out to be, as I have an identical set of symptoms (except headlight buzzer and courtesy lights still work). Thanks.
