Sub making violent sounds HELP!

Featured Replies

Hey all im back on this forum again with yet another problem!!

This morning i decided to wire up my sub and amp into my fabia vrs using a vibe 4awg kit however the grommit in the bulk head wasnt big enough to allow the power cable through (i know there are ways lol) so i decided to use 8awg i had laying around... After feeding the power cable, remote and RCAs through to the boot i connected everything up and as i only had 4awg ground cable i connected that to the rear light bolt after scraping away the paint so it was metal to metal. The speaker wire is ofcourse vibes own flat cable and is connect to a 12" jl audio sub from a denon dca amp.

When i came to testing out my new install i kept hearing violent interrupting vibrating popping/flapping sounds coming from the sub when the music was playing... Ive changed phono cables, placed away from power cable, checked the wires are connected in the box of sub, tried alternative ground spots, used 4awg power cable (running from outside) used different pre outs on both amp and head unit, checked all fuses on amp, head unit and power cable but still the problem persists!?!

The sub stops making the noises once RCA phono cables have been disconnected

The headunit i am using is a pioneer avh p5700dvd.

Did you connect the interference wire? Its normally a thin blue wire which goes from amp to HU, often its the 3rd wire attached with the phono leads. Its to ground noisy signals from HU. Cant remember the technical name for that wire though... brain not working tonight.

There is a thin blue wire going from the amp to head unit... I believe this is the remote cable?

Sorry, re-reading that it seemed theres more info lol.

Remote cable is what i meant. Power cable should run same side as power going to the back of the car, opposite side to the phono cable. iirc power to the left phono to the right or the middle.

Tried turning down the gain on the amp? switch HU pre-amp to low? could be amp which is gone if your sure cables are ok, amps don't like being overstretched.

Edit: A quick google on whats a denon dca amp, it seems its an oldskool amp? cant find any D class ones so guessing its analogue, so if its old and likely to heat up big time if running subs (i assume your JL12" is about 600-800w rms?), I would guess it maybe on its way out?

I have an 800w rms amp for a 600w rms sub, if its underpowered it would eventually kill the sub and amp but if amp was going I would imagine the signals amplified will be noisy, i.e. random spikes. Wouldn't of thought a HU would go though.

Lol sorry im out of ideas, maybe someone can come along soon and help out.

Have you tried different phono cables?
