vcds cable

Featured Replies

I have a cable for vcds which I used sucessfully on my mk3 golf cabriolet (built 1995)

Just wondered if the cables have changed, can it be used on my 06 fabia vrs or do I need a newer cable. Its a serial cable not USB, dont want to plug it in until I know its ok?

Thx

They probably have changed, but the biggest change was when VW switched to a CANBUS system. Only thing I might be wary of with an old cable is that if you have an aftermarket headunit it can make the voltages across the cable wrong and damage the electronics inside. So if you have a third party headunit, I'd unplug it just to be safe. The latest genuine Ross-Tech cables are protected from this, but older cables and eBay cables may not be.

Hmm, not got an after market hu, but I think ill get a new one to play it safe. Probably not worth the risk of breaking anything.

Thx for the reply.
