New Purchase

Featured Replies

Hi, just joined today.

Am at the point of sgning on the dotted line for an Superb Ele Estate DSG with 2 litre petrol engine to take advantage of the current VAT free deal. I have worked out my expected mileage for the next 4 years, and it will be about that time before the diesel variant becomes more economical.

Am I doing the right thing?

The Zee

Absolutely.

The diesel bubble is over in my honest opinion ... but we've been a little 'hardwired' into thinking diesel = cheap to run so it can seem a tough decision. We recently changed both cars in our household from diesel to petrol models, and at first the outlay seemed a touch higher, but then once insurance renewal, servicing, tax and other costs came into it, I reckon we're saving £1,000 a year now. For people driving over 14,000 miles PA I still think a diesel is the best choice. We do 3,000 in one car and 2,000 in the other, so owning diesels was the wrong choice. As a side factor, it's also lovely getting back to quiet, refined motoring. ;) (Sorry to all the oil burner owners; no offence intended!).

thanks Longyear, encouraging words. I know what you mean about refined motoring. The Zee is a great car (for weekend fun) but I also want something more relaxing for long distance. The Skod seems such good value. The only reservation I have is that there has been some complaints about the software for the DSG box sometimes getting confused at junctions. It something I dont suffer with the auto box on the Zee, but I am sure it will be alright on the night. Plan to place my order this weekend.
