Strange problem - fail to start

Featured Replies

Strange one... Left the office, opened the car - t

Phone rang so I sat with the car door open and key in my lap... Five minutes later went to start... Nothing - no display or anything. Then I noticed the speedo showing 90mph and revs at 4500...

Thought I'd try to reset with fob - nothing

Thought I'd put the stereo on to see if battery would power it - nothing

Waited 5 mins - put the key in and the clock sweep of hands went very slowly but then allowed me to fire up!

All the tc ESP and steering lights on - cleared whist moving in the car park.

Trip computer and clock reset as well

I'm thinking battery (only 1 year old) - hot today so may have killed it off

Can you check using Vcds? I'm assuming charge shoul be about 14.5 at 2000 rpm?

Under warranty so not too stressed but wondering if anyone else had come across it

Will probably find out in the morning when I try to fire her up!

Sorted - battery was keeping charge so needed to look somewhere else.

Vcds showed nothing

Air box out to look at the earthing straps

The thin earth terminal to the wing from the battery had come loose!

Well done for sorting it and thanks for posting the cure.

Nice one, don't you just love the feeling of identifying and fixing the issue yourself and for £0!

Another thanks for adding the update so that others can benefit too
