correct tyre size on vrs

Featured Replies

my vrs has odd tyre sizes, 205/40/17 on the front and 205/50/17 on the back. its causing traction control to kick in all the time.

i take it the 205/50/17 is the correct size.

would 225/45/17 fit on these rims as i have a set of them kicking around

cheers

Yup 225/45 are fine. Expect reduced fuel economy though.

That's shocking! Did you buy it like that? The ABS/ASR system must be having a **** fit! Plus that's an MOT failure and possibly illegal......

205/50R17 is standard, so I'd just throw a couple on the front.

225/45 are fine as I said a lil more fuel used but the circumference is almost the same as 205/50.

yeah i bought it like it , have to run with traction control off as it constantly kicks in. the guy did give me 2 brand new tyres for the rear but they are the 205/40s so too small. gona go in at the weekend and have 4 shiny new (well, part worn) tyres fitted

why 4, just get 2 205/50/17's for the rear end

Not MOT fail/illegal as long as the wheels/tyres on each axle are the same size. Many RWD cars have wider wheels/tyres on the back.

Aye, tis true, my old 5 series did. :)

I had the opposite last year 225 on the fronts 205 on the back went straight though the MOT no probs lol

I have a full set of 225/45/17 run flat continentles on my vrs and manage 37 mpg at 70 mph

Yeah, I didn't mean tyre width! I'm not quite that retarded....

I meant differences in rolling radii, on a car not designed for it. The Octavia is designed to run identical radii front and rear. So surely by changing this, you are affecting the performance of systems that rely on the accuracy of individual wheel speed calculations. Like ABS/ASR/ESP. Which are all safety systems.....

Obviously it's even more important on a 4x4 vehicle.
