Car shuddering when accelerator released.

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

My car has been sat for about 3 weeks after I had an operation. I've started it a couple of times a week, and given it a couple of revs up to 2,000RPM just to keep it ticking over.

However, this morning when I was giving it revs (in neutral) I was going up to 2,000RPM and when I released the accelerator, there was a kind of juddering and the RPM dropped slightly lower than the normal idle point (dropping to about 600RPM instead of 750RPM), and and then immediately came back up to the normal idle point.

Is this normal after being sat, or could there be another issue?

I also notice that even on normal idle, the car has a slight judder (is this normal?) and then sometimes when I start it, the idle is slightly higher and the juddering is more noticeable.

Any ideas?

(When I say juddering, I mean you can feel the whole car sort of shaking).

  • 3 weeks later...

Could be normal, maybe just running 'rough' because it's not warmed up???

If you drive it a few miles and the engine comes up to temperature and the issue is still there then you might have an issue of some kind.

ideally it needs to be driven, not just started, i personally would have left it the three weeks until i could drive it. Its probably needing a good wee drive and the a boot full once properly warmed up.
