Fabia Vrs TDI oil change

Featured Replies

Recently bought a very well looked after high milage Fabia TDI 130 Vrs with 134k on the clock, full service history with a Skoda dealer right up to 133k. I'm very pleased with it as it looks, drives and sounds like new.

I'm just wondering if it would be a good idea to have an oil an filter change in between the 10k service intervals to keep the engine happy with fresh oil more regularly and what would be the best oil to use for the engine?

Thanks.

Service mine every 6,000 - 7,000 miles including air filter. Based on 12,000 miles a year.

I tend to service just as winter starts then another one just as spring starts.

The way I see it, air filter full of salt and carp from winter and in the summer, filter caked with pollen and dry road dust etc so may as well do oil changes.

a gearbox oil change may be worthwhile too

Thanks for the replies, would it be best to use a fully synthetic oil and which brand would you choose for your high mileage PD engine?

Mine is on similar mileage (129k). Recently had a gearbox oil change, felt a bit more notchy to start with but it seems to have calmed down now (or I've just become accustomed to it).

Regarding oil. It gets serviced every 10k with the occasional intermediate (5k) change too. At that frequency, I'm not worrying too much about the 'best' brand. If its a good name and meets the vw spec then I'm happy. Castrol Edge last time for me I think.

Thanks for the info and advice guys.

I'm going to have an oil and filter change at every 5k miles in between the main service intervals, I'm sure my local Skoda dealer will use a good oil anyway?

Yeah, they will be using the correct stuff.... BUT charging you a fortune for it :) go to your local TPS, last week I paid £30 for 10 litres of PD specific Quantum oil.

There's nothing worse than having your air filter blocked with fish.. :giggle:
