No SAI at the moment

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've done about 50 miles since fitting the new sump, and I was driving home last night when the car showed a CEL. I checked for codes when I got home and got 2 - 16795, and 16396. I cleared the codes and drove it all today, and there are no new codes. Thing is, I don't really know if these are related to my sump exploit, or whether they were already lurking waiting to hatch. I have been hearing the SAI up to when I had the sump incident.

However, when I start the car from cold, I now do not hear the SAI pump run - presumably hence the 16795 code. I have substituted a known good pump to check 1st thing this morning so I could check it in the 90 secs from cold window, but there was no visisble activity at all.

Is there a fuse that covers this unit?, if so where abouts is it located?. The car actually runs fine so was quite suprised when it threw up the CEL. Are the control relays known for failing as I have managed to find that in the relay box on the bulkhead.

I really need to find a good quality wiring diagram for this vehicle, as Haynes really is not really up to the job. What do you more technical chaps use to source your info from please?.

As usual, many thanks in advance,

Phil.

IIRC the SAI is right by the sump, you may have dinged it along with sump, or somebody has not connected something back up after fixing the sump.

It's fine to run with out it, I unplugged the relay as the noise of my broke one was annoying me.

Thanks for replying David 8.

That was exactly what I thought but I swopped over pumps this morning and still nothing - sump was damaged by the drain plug rather than at the front, had a hole in it about 1mm. I would like to retain standard features if possible, but that depends how much aggro is involved.

Thanks

Phil

Have you checked the connections ??

This was why I was asking about a better wiring diagram, so that I can work out what voltages should be at what connections at each component in the cicuit that controls the pump. The trouble with Haynes is that it does not give much info on the location of loom connectors so that you can backtrack the system.

Was wondering whether to buy one of the ebay manual discs to see if it was any better.

Cheers

Phil
